Default The Beautification of LOLA begins...

OK, I have procrastinated with putting this together for FAR too long, so here goes. Thought I'd share with you some photos of the new love of my life. Her name is Lola, she was born in 1974, she is a 1.8 litre auto, doesn't necessarily go very fast, but enjoys cruising, checking out other Kombis, and acknowledging the waves as she goes along.

This is her the first day after she arrived at her new home.

She's a bit tired on the inside, but nothing that a little pretty-ing up won't fix. (Spoken like a typical girl!).

A rather naked back area, and a very spectacular mis-matched back door. Note the handpainted red bits - very professional!

Not a flat or straight panel on her, and waaaay too many wires for it to be a good thing.

A small lamb obviously ran ramptant in Lola some time ago .... along with a spectacularly rusty window

More tired interior, and the back panel after a particularly nasty run in with an automatic garage door - down to BARE metal. My husband is no longer sleeping on the lounge!

Thanks guys. My Xmas present from Reece this year is about 20 cans of black vinyl dye/paint to do the seats. Any celebration in future whether it be birthday or Xmas will consist of Kombi related presents for me. The seats are actually in pretty good nick, so we won't replace them.

We've actually started prettying up, but I haven't uploaded the photos to Photobucket yet, so will start doing that tonight.

My plans are all black interior (seats, floor, panels) with stainless steel screws, a new cream headliner, replaced windows, seals etc, sexy steering wheel cover, codpiece, 3/4 spare wheel cover from the lovely Necro. Reece was also sussing out sheet stainless steel for around the bottom of her front seats.

Unfortunately we don't have buckets of money to throw at her so she'll remain the same colour with bent panels until we win Lotto. Or we have some sort of big inheritance. Although Christine (matthew77's wife) assures me that Lola looks lovely if you're a couple of metres away - she says this is how all cars should be admired rather than up too close! I like the way she thinks.

Hey Kyra

Great to see the pics of Lola, looks like an honest girl getting an exciting new lease on life. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics added as you go. I must start my own thread one of these days.

Cheers Alex

Lovely Lola looks sweet.

The best thing about KC is that we all enjoy and admire others buses without them having to be in spanking new-like condition.

Great stuff Kyra and keep up the good work - love the pics

Hey guys - some more pics. Matt, you're dead right about everyone admiring people's pride and joys, even when they're not showroom quality!

Now, as some of you will remember I was Lola-less (try saying that 10 times with a bottle of wine under your belt!) for about a month in July. She had some re-constructive surgery. She had a lot of rust taken out of the sliding door, the big scratches on her back door (see above for pics) tidied up and re-sprayed and also a whole heap of knocks on the drivers side where the kids had scraped her with bikes/scooters and husband's motor bike. They have now been threatened with death if they touch her again.

This is what she looked like beforehand:

The rust taken out of the door (outside and inside shots)

Special thanks to Noel for doing such a superb job and to Rackie and Faye (owners of formerly DaggyAbby) for putting me in contact with Noel.

(Also, not sure what the go is with the different colours that Lola appears to be - red or orange - but I assure you she's all the one colour. NOW!)

Been out today to buy some new chrome window winders for her, so will look even better!!

More new door panels (sorry for the lack of light for the rear door)

New kickboards..... just need to do something about the wires now.

Note my ever so gorgeous speckled dashboard! Also, the spectacular Bay key ring. With a customised codpiece, steering wheel cover from the lovely Necro, she'll come up a treat.

Bought some carpet and underlay today, so that's the next big thing that we'll do after finishing the last of the door cards off tomorrow (public holiday up here in QLD).

Were you going to tell your husband about your carpet and underlay, or were you just going to surprise him when he comes home tonight?

And motorbike scratches would be a lot higher up the side.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM REECE!!! Glad that you have entered my world. Or at least I sincerely hope it's my husband....

And, no, I wasn't going to mention the carpet or underlay - there's got to be a few surprises left in our marriage!

Do you want to tell everyone why you're called "she nearly broke my spine"? Or do you not want to go there?!
