Good onya Judy for posting. Sorry I'm not closer to be able to help Sarah out. I'm sure someone here will help sort her out.

Good luck Sarah - hope all is sorted and you are on your way soon.

Yay team (esp Judy).

Really glad Sarah is on her way. What a shame this was her first experience driving her new Kombi. At least she'll probably feel that if she can get it home to Melbourne, she'll be able to cope with a break down anywhere.

She obviously has lots of good Kombi Karma going her way!

Geez, Sarah's going to have some stories to tell about her first Kombi trip...!

Considering her earlier problem, I think Sarah should make sure (by the smell) that it is oil and not fuel that is leaking.... if it is indeed oil, and it is not pouring out, then I reckon she should probably just top it up and continue the last 5 hours home, stopping regularly to check the level.

Does Sarah know where it is leaking from, and how heavy the flow is?

I am sending all the kombi karma I can muster her way.... I hope it works out for her! If she needs someone to look up the John Muir idiot's guide for her (or any other assistance) then get her to call me on 9440 5909. I live in Heidelberg in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Actually, I'll also send her an SMS now offering her what little help I can....

edit: Just saw Judy's follow-up message, it sounds to me like Sarah might have two problems, the oil problem and the problem starting... (?) I gave her a call and left a message.

Hey Guys!

I'm Home!!!! Very Long few days and I have just had three days sleeping on the back seat of the kombi.

I think I have stressed a little too much over a few things. I was very worried about being stranded.

I awoke this morning in a carpark to see a Dark Green Split and new that if this person is driving this machine then he should know a little bit about the tickings. Just happened to be Kombi Rescue (Steve Muller) Well tool box in hand he had a look at the kombi and it was a very small fix. I think that our problem happened so late and we were so tired that it seemed bigger than it actually was!

Lots of stories to tell.

I panicked when i saw the oil but i dont think its a big deal after chatting to Kombi Rescue and another mechanic.

I feel very Blonde (pardon the pun) and a little stupid about the accelerator arm and now need to make it a priority to learn more about the engines on these things. I was told that i couldnt start it because the motor was hot and burning the fuel in the carbies (evaporation or something) as soon as it cooled a little it was fine. I had been driving for hours!

Glad to hear you made it home alright!

You'll have plenty of time to get to know your new member of the family. Good on Steve for coming to your help.

Glad you made it safely Sarah! I missed all this excitement...would not have been able to help but at least all our goodwill may have done something! Looking forward to seeing the bus soon. Seems like kombi karma worked anyway...waking up to Kombi Rescue...now that is a good way to get back on the road in a strange place!
