Trying to find the VW greens that I intend to paint the bottom half of my 76 camper. I have seen it & been informed it is an original colour. Have heard Kombi immersed people (nice freaks) call it Kermit Green or as I refer to it as 'happy" green. Be stoked if you could help me . Herman the German almost ready to roll again.
Paint colour codes The colour codes on that website are really good, but where do you find the codes on your vehicle. I have 2 mustard? yellow kombi's and I can't find the plate that gives the codes from the manufacturer. Only the compliance plate which give the compliance codes. Any idea's. Adrian
Hi Herman, I had a 76 beetle and the official colour was Grasshopper Green as per the website. Its a great colour!! Good Luck! Tim
Thanks Dave, BUT there aren't stickers in either of my Kombi's Bloody PO's. They are both what I believe is Wattle yellow, but there seems to be a slight difference between betwwen the 1974 and the 1975 versions as in the later one is Could be just my eyes or the fading by the sun. Does anyone know if there was a difference between those to years? Adrian
What green ? If it is a 76 there should be a plate on top of the left hand air vent above the fuse box. This will tell you every thing you need to know about your van. It is only on the German Vans. I'm guessing but I think your van will be Sage Green L63H with a Pastel White Roof L90D. Mine is a 1977 in these colours. Will post photo. Deano
Deano My 77 is the same colour as yours and according to the M code is Sage Green also, however I'm not convinced it is as Sage Green is alot duller, more of an olive colour. Anybody know what the GO is with the groovy green buses of the 70's? Here are some sage green westy's, not quite as "far out" as our's
So if the M code says Sage Green (as it does for mine and Deanos) and when you reference Sage Green in VW paint codes its actually the same as the Aussie Martini Olive what colour is my damn bus? I'm confused:wtf: It's clearly not Martini Olive, therefore can't be Sage Green unless in 77 they changed the colour tones of Sage Green (but that sounds more like a british or american thing to do, not German)
'77 Kombis were not Australian made Martini Olive was not on '77s. Australian Kombis do not have M codes Sage Green is not the same as Martini Olive. Australian paint codes look like CLR *** German paint codes look like L *** (L for Lacke, German for paint) Where did you get that information from?
In my Australian books and charts books and charts, L63H comes up as Taiga Green, not sage green. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa28/in2vws_com/in2vws/VW Paint/in2vws_AU_Paint_24.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa28/in2vws_com/in2vws/VW Paint/19760002.jpg
It is the same colour (L63H) They just gave it a different name for different markets. http://www.gti16v.com/vwcc1978.htm
Yes I can see that in the chart you linked to, and it also states that Sage Green was the name for the US market only. We are talking about Australian buses aren't we?
Just to avoid confusion, we are talking German made busses sold in Australia. Yes, you would be correct in calling it Taiga Green. It would not be written anywhere on the vehicle, so the OP has probably gone to a US site (as many people here do) and looked up the code L63H there. The best way to find out what they called it in Australia is to find an original 1977 Australian van brochure.
Sorry if this is a little off topic, but I thought I'd ask while there seems to be some people in the know ready to help Behind the passenger seat of my Kombi there is a sticker that says Dulux Colour 911. Is that a stock standard colour? It doesn't sound like the L*** or whatever codes. My bus is white and from '76 and a Sunliner camper conversion.
