All syncros sold in Australia need a cat.

    Yes - emissions.

If anything, a cat detracts from performance.

All vehicles sold in Australia since 1985 have been required to have a catalytic convertor as per ADR regulations. All of the T3s sold in the US also had a catalytic convertor so exhausts are readily available. Be careful buying from UK or European companies as most of them are not compatible with our exhausts.

Had a customer last week who thought his exhaust had come loose, had a look underneath and yep - his cat had been stolen!

Not surprised really, scrap guys offer us $250-$300 for old cats, thats good money for all the thieving crack-heads around here...

You do not gain any power whatsoever. Second part is correct.

You are the first person that has said that to me.
Catalytic Converters are a restrictive device that causes back pressure.
The whole reason there is a market for high flow catalytic converters.

    Why do you say this?

I have a cat bypass pipe. While the cat was new I used the pipe. It made no difference at all. I think I still have it you want to try it.

Note the diameter of the catalytic convertor. Note the diameter of the exhaust pipe. I bet if you get the area of all of the small holes in the catalytic convertor it would be the same as the straight through exhaust. If you look in one end of the cat you will see straight out the other.

Some halfwits have claimed more power from removing the cat which has probably done 200000kms. They got more power because it was stuffed,
