I am currently in the throws a a full restoration of Daisy, a 1976 Baywindow. Have bought a bunch of parts from all over the world but cannot find the outer skin at the top of the A Pillars? ( I have two new A Pillars from two different suppliers). Not even sure what you call this part and I really need it to get things back together.
I have included a photo to show the part I am after Daisy-A-Pillar-Skin.jpg

Any help anyone can give me would be great (yes this is my first Kombi)

    Thanks Owen

I needed the same part a few years ago and managed to get one from a donor vehicle in Adelaide where the dry climate helps them survive.

Nasty rust there. You'll likely find you need more than just the outer skin. From memory there are 3 pieces that make up this A-pillar. I don't think these parts are available new. Suggest you find one from a donor vehicle.

To best of my knowledge there are no repo outer skin.
Numerous requests for such and no positive leads.

We just replaced ours on our kombi. No aftermarket A-pillar skins that I am aware of. Our panel beater used the rusted out old ones to help him build some new ones IMG_1312.JPG

We'll be up for doing this in the future as well. Planning on rolling up new ones from scratch. Seems to be a patch that hasn't been repro'd.

Are they that hard to make?

Considering other pieces like dog legs I would have thought the outer would be easy to knock up

    Quite true.

If someone has the ability to make, or get these made in quantities, to keep the selling price realistic, it could be a lucrative exercise....

Yes it does beat me why they aren't available given the rate they deteriorate.

Though it does give one the opportunity to learn some metal work skils and make your own.

I've been having a lot of fun shaping up all the parts I've needed for mine. - sure it's not going to be a show pony. But having a show pony just makes you nervous in a car park ;)
