It's enough to make me want to put in a slider window... $250 for the window and the seal combined.
....but no, I can't do that...

    TeeBee,

Listen to Oldman.......something about crying once. Do it right first time........even if you are like me and have no idea what you are doing! It's the journey......not the destination.........

there's lots of kombis getting around with sliding windows - i don't mind them - unless you are trying to stay as original as possible

Pull your original and put aside.
Put sliders in and keep driving
Fix flippers up over time and reinstall
    Sell sliders

Well this certainly beats my idea of temporarily patching up the window with plastic and masking tape! :D

Does any one know if you can get replacement rubber inserts for the 1/4 windows? The little rubber “U” channel that goes in between the frame and the glass itself?

I haven't been able to find any. I haven't checked with VW Performance Centre (http://www.vwperformance.com.au/) yet. They have a lot of parts that aren't listed on their web site, so you'd need to call them to find out.

Being new to kombis and an old beetle person, I am certain people rebuilt pop out windows.
That U channel would be the same.

Cheers for the help! I’ll give them a ring tomorrow if they don’t have any I’ll have a go with the tube or I was thinking of just siliconing them in.

Yeah sliders are good :)when you start looking at the cost of a slider compared to replacing parts 1/4 windows or a complete 1/4 window, and the above:rolleyes: rubber is only one piece of the 1/4 window add the other components it starts adding up.
