Okay its probably a dumb question but why do my brakes squeal when reversing but not going forward on my 1974 Auto Kombi. They have been cleaned and checked but its quite loud and annoying. Any suggestions?

Its to wake you up properly when you reverse out of the driveway. Our 79 does the same. After a bit of a run stops squarking. (Is that a word?)

get some copper grease inbetween the pad and the piston. or the anti-squeal gear from the auto store. worked for me, and mine were horrid! in both directions, now it is only occasional.
