So in short: Actually a bunch of total nuts that gather with a common Kombi interest (illness), that find a gathering of wide and varied occupations, all suffering from the same VW affliction, therapy enough to feel that you're "not alone" with the condition?:umm:

I'm as guilty and affected as the next KC member, even without being able to attend this years total immersion therapy session, politely named the "Bus Stop", (just to disguise that it's a full on therapy love in)......

    Bus Stop fuel consumption

Just tallied our fuel costs/consumption for the trip.....

    Total distance travelled = 4 298 kilometres
Total fuel used = 490.05 litres
    Consumption = 11.40 lts/100k VERY HAPPY :)

Keep in mind that these figures are averaged out over the entire trip for a 2ltr. Sopru with roof rack loaded, two adults & fully packed for a 2 1/2 week camping trip.
Average cruising speed - 90-95 kph. Fuel used was 98 or 95 if we couldn't get 98 octane.
Cheapest fuel was at Drysdale Vic. - $1.60/ ltr.
Most expensive at Apollo Bay - Vic. - $1.86/ltr.

We ended up returning with the equivalent of another adult in weight's worth of wine & trinkets picked up along the way....
Nothing tricky with drive train - stock 2ltr., stock transmission & stock carbs. A credit to the builder - Mike at CBB VW.

Great pics Mark and Sue ..... I must hereby state that I am glad you did not have a pic of the Mushpit in a sad moment on the side of the road, unable to move by his own power ...... :(

The long story is that when the crew that headed back to SA after the bustop, we had decided to fuel up together at Morgan so we could compare economies. As the local, I led everyone in, over the punt (rather, they followed me) and I drove into the Morgan roadhouse with out of order signs on every pump . Hmmmm. We all agreed we could get to the next town so abandoned that last plan. Saabman and Freak headed off north, while Oldman and I headed west. I told him I had enough petrol to get to Eudunda. And I did !! Unfortunately we had an "Oh Sh1t" moment at the Eudunda servo, as they also had an "out of order" sign on every pump.

I then made the wisest decision of the year ! Rather than head home, I would cruise with Oldman to the next town to fill up. Good call. Seven k's out of Kapunda and the inevitable happened climbing up a small hill and a bit of a stop by the side of the road. The kind people behind me in the kombi gave me a lift into town and I now have a new fuel can for the mower to replace the very old rusty one. Got home fine. The motto of the story is "Run out of petrol only if there is an Oldman following".

Mark and Sue have now been elevated to "legend" status for the great rescue !!!

Coincidence Mark, We have similar photos of us try the waters at Kyneton in Vic, and it tasted like metal. Even after 10 mins of pumping. What did you think?

Jubilee lake spring water tasted great !!....(wish we'd had larger containers.)
I think we followed you through bendigo Adrian, albeit a week or so later.
I was talking to the lady on the sales desk & she spoke of a family from Tassie - older kids - that had been through recently & spoke of TBS.
You guys...? Great to finally meet & greet.
