    Hi everyone!!

I am looking for recommendations for a mechanic on the central coast that is able to do a pre purchase inspection on a kombi?

FYI - i am a kombi newbie and i am up in QLD. I have been spying on this forum for the longest time absorbing as much as i can and i think i have found 'the one' a fully restored 77 2L :p

I know I have to move quickly and I will be looking to make a deposit/fly down asap but I just need someone in the know in Sydney to check out the mechanics either before I can get there or with me once I can make it down.

    Thanks!!!!

Reason I ask is quite often flippers and dodgy car sales have no idea either so can be the first heads up on something dodgy.

Rough area of Sydney will help for advice on mechanics.
I'll leave it to the Sydney mob to list options.

Good( essential) move to have the inspection done.

If its full resto expect proof and ask who did the work.
Plenty of " restorers" to avoid.

    Good luck

Gosford is Central Coast, not Sydney.

    Hi BeccaNeverland,
Sounds like it's a 77 2L which makes it a 2 litre engine. Feel free to send me some pics.
If it's Central Coast, I'm not a mechanic, but would be happy to accompany you or go & have a look for you.
You could also PM (personal message me...top right of screen 'Inbox' 'Start a message with' me & attach photos less than 1mb & I'll give an opinion).
Can be sure I don't want another ;). Just want to help.
    Cheers

Welcome to the Kombi Club Becca. :)

Take up any offers from members to help out with the purchase, or pre purchase. We are generally not in the market to buy another, but happy to help out others.

    Enjoy the ride.........;)

Looks like it's a dead deal before inspection. Great view by Chuck. Between what we see and the reputation of the seller....mmmm:(. Cbus has pointed Becca towards Elouise' Kombi .

I basically informed her of the things the majority of people are aware of such as her seats will need engineering inspection done for rego at around $500.
Said they should have reciepts for any mechanical work done and as it was a old engine rebuild, any car service receipts or others so you have a bit of an idea of if it was maintained.
Also i would expect a headlinning (another $800) in the car and little things like the engine plastic fan belt cover replaced for there asking price.
I didnt mention anything about the business or about the owner
Sorry she didnt think this was the one for her so good luck with the search.
    Cheers

Looks like chuckie and I saw pretty much same list of clues.
Mods that likely need engineering to transfer.
Almost non existent fan cover and heater boxes venting into engine bay make one wanting to be more thorough on mechanical inspection.
Details like lack of roof lining and front seats possibly high in squab for comfortable driving.
A number of things that add up given the price bracket.

    Spot on Cbus...
Also was it a 77? Or 76? A Model built in late 76 plated 77.
Missing a lot of the 77 model features like the rippled finish dash, no fat padded steering wheel. Both Bulk head in place so seats cant lay down.
    etc .
Anyways found her a orange 77 forsale up her way that looks more promising. Maybe the one your talking about Col.
    Cheers
