Reports say that Andy Irons has passed away after pulling out of the Rip Curl event in Puerto Rico, aged 32. Early reports say it was Dengue fever

Such a tragedy, his rivalry in the early part of the decade with Kelly Slater was fantastic.

Some of the news sites are saying he died from a methadone overdose.

However he died, it's an absolute tragedy.

And the fact that his wife is due to have a baby next month just makes me want to cry.

    RIP Andy.

Andy Irons was possibly one of the best comp surfers, knew all the tricks to scoring the best ride and milking it all the way to the shorey.

I can see another Memorial Competition starting next year, The Irons Memorial.

He is now surfing with Mark Foo, Todd Chesser and Eddie Aikau.

    R.I.P Andy.
