I had one in a golf GTI powered 1979 Passat.. it failed. Bought another.. it failed.. that was 1997-2003. Over them .. I keep seeing failures of all the cheapos too.

Mine has been replaced by a CSP and removed from the engine in working condition and placed in the boot for a spare. I have been advised by a few workshops to only use 123 or CSP. I also don't like the idea of a "one size fits all" 009 distributor.

For some unknown reason the Compufire was used with a ballast resistor and a standard Bosch coil. Maybe that's why it lasted so long.
