Toying with the idea of updating my (front) brakes from drum to disc's. Lots of options - EMPI, EMPI copy to airkewld (wilwood). Noticed Vollks.com.au has special for$630 delivered would these be suitable for low powered bus running standard wheels. Or should I start saving for the airkewld? Assistance & advice please? Anybody with experience with either?
As above Empi is a waste of money and whilst Wilwood is ok I don't believe you can get it engineered Why do you want discs? Bigger motor ? Why not bay beam? Yeah you loose wide 5 but at least it works
Barry is right, Wilwood can't be engineered in this country. John Sherman does a good wide 5 disc conversion, It's not CSP quality but it works.
Not too many brakes that gets engineered in the country anymore. The cost of hiring a track and driver to tell you your brakes work, its cheaper to run the gauntlet.
Spoke to John from Volks conversion - seems like the way to go. My only concern is the approval side. Any body go through the process with an engineer? Maybe a contact with a suitable engineer?
It's not too hard Terry, Johns brakes have been passed for years mate. You'll have to ask around your area, put the call out on dsk.
My brakes are getting converted as we speak. My kombi whisperer mechanic had the parts made to spec by some guy in Queensland, I can get his details if you want? The mechanic swears by the parts - not as shiny as csp but does the job. Says not to go anywhere near the empi ones. Parts cost me $1500, about a grand cheaper than csp would have been.
