VW Fleet has grown - need engine # help please Oldest son (Josh) and myself did a '74 Bus with help from the late KIP - since then acquired my late cousins '70 Beetle and last week had a '69 Lowlight Camper delivered which my 15 yo son (Rupert) and I are looking to do up. Engine number on the Lowlight appears to be T47105P - any idea whether this is 1300 (as prior owner reckons) of a 1600 - please let it be the latter!! Also suggestion on dizzy cao, rotor, points (the ubiquitous GB534?) and plug (W8AC?) parts numbers would be great Thanks
Engine number - could be a Type III case 1500??? or a recon. Can you supply more info? Does it have dual relief oil valves? Does it have a diamond shape blanking plate on the rear right hand side? Does it have any part numbers stamped on the case?
Thanks to those who offered assistance - I sent Synchro some fotos and he believes it is most likely a 1600 single port - guess we'll find out when we get it back on the road!
Hi all, I have a 75 Bay with what I think is a dual carb 1800 (eng no is AP045844). I'm a bit confused with everything here and I'm sure one of you guys can answer this straight away. Is this a Type 4 dual port motor??? Cheers
Cheers Syncro I knew someone could answer that one quickly. Now I just need to track down a pair of mainfolds to suit ....
Phill, My newly acquired 7/71 lowlight has the following engine number AD092470. The engine looks original even down to the muffler which is about to disintegrate. It is definately a twin port motor and I assume a 1600cc upright type 1 motor. Does that engine number seem correct for that year? Thanks for any advice. Cheers, Scott
AD 000001 built 01-08-70 AD 136655 built 31-12-70 You didn't get that date from the compliance plate did you? They mean bugger all. What is your VIN?
Just a quick little hijack here, but which one is the VIN? I have 2 sets of numbers stamped into the panel in the lhs of the engine bay and one set of numbers on a welded on tag. I know that one of the sets of stamped in numbers is a Victorian Police issued VIN, but what's the go with the other numbers and the welded on tag? BTW. none of these numbers match what's on the compliance plate.
The first number (which usually has seven digits) should be the serial number. The first three digits of the serial number is usually the model number (eg 234, a right-hand drive, left-hand slider, type 2 "kombi"...) The second number, on a similar plate directly below the serial number, should be the VIN (or chassis) number (which usually has 10 digits). The compliance plate probably records the original VIN.
Vin Phill, My VIN (I think) as taken from the engine bay next to the engine hatch is: 224DL0525 The Australian Compliance plate is the one stamped 7/71 and it is: 2212161709. It has the standard front disc brakes and the drums on the rear and is the late bay style wheels - has the small rear tail lights and low light front indicators (none of which work). Cheers, Scott
G'day guys, could anyone tell me wot my motor is. I have a 75 kombi engine No CA045066 and it is a twin carb, the gearbox starts with 002 and have 5 ribs, so does this mean i have a1700 twin carb with an 1800 gearbox? Cheers
I know this thread is a while old now, by for what it's worth, my 72 bus (Donald) has the engine it arrived in NZ in 73 with # AD613641. Mplate says it came off the line in July 72. Poor old Don has been having a bit of an identity crisis recently as a number of websites have AD listed as being a replacement engine case number, but I think it's highly unlikely that a bus made in July 72 would have had its engine replaced and 5,000 miles clocked up by April 73 :umm:. I've also found the following website that lists AD as being an original VW manufactured engine number: http://lennysvw.com/type1chassis.htm http://www.bustopia.com/vw-engine-number-codes.html
