what about those little beaches further south of broken Heads ie Kings beach etc. Are they patrolled by rangers alot? Took my little Ford Fiesta (daughter's car actually) down for a drive down the dirt road to these beaches and my first thought was 'when i get my kombi, what a great place for some r'n'r!'

this is probably mentioned somewhere but i haven't time to read every post.;)

we have a couple of these books & highly recommend them, we have found the best free campsites with them especially over in Tassie, every site was beautiful & we were the only ones using them at the time. here’s the link http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/ they should be available at any book store though.

its onto Camp 5 now, with a few changes, their website also lists the changes as updates!

We have found a few good spots but the info isn't as clear as it should be as some camps require pre-booking and special permits!

Wheres this free camp in Ballina, is it Sharpies?

My wife and I got kicked out of Byron Bay in 1983 and I haven't been back since, only wanted a site in the caravan park but the banks wern't open on Sundays and there were no auto teller machines back then.

We got kicked out of Byron in 1985 and on the way out I spotted a state forest on the left we ended up staying there was no amenities but it was free. But that was long ago.

footpath lawn sprinklers and sensor annoying spot-lights and a yapper or 2 could turn campers away
I have some Llasa Apsos which smell and hear anything & bark
many burly blokes have asked ..do they bite?? they have a huge bark in a small dog.
maybe leave their poo around in the gutters..he he!
I am just assembling my camper lol.

On the way to Bus Stop Sawtell i overnight end at Yelgun Rest Area. Great spot. Lions put on free tea and coffee 24hrs, but lease give a donation. There's also bbqs and tables under cover. No showers that I noticed and please bring your own water. There were campers, vans, tents and trucks.

Just stopped in at Yelgun. May as well open a camping park! We headed up to Mullumbimby and stayed at the rugby league club. $30 powered. River front. Showers. Pet friendly. No hassles and big sites. Not free I know but worth the money for a good stop.
Seems the Tweed coast and northern rivers doesn't look after the free camping brigade that made it so popular 30 to 40 years ago.
Then again it costs a fortune to dress hippie chic these days. Uh oh, now I'm getting cynical.

Follow on with trip may need to be posted elsewhere. Staying at Glenreagh tonight, south of Grafton. Good camp spot, $10 no power, $20 power. Dog friendly. As for the Golden Dog Hotel... Not dog friendly, not even in the carpark eating area. Grumpy as too. Good food though.

There is a brand new land subdivision on the edge of Glenreagh, on the road that goes up to the water tower, SE side of town. Not a block sold last time I was there. Great campspot.

Nearly took the backroad down through the NP, but followed the bitumen to Coffs. Sounds like I pulled the wrong reign.
