    In need of advice again
So I've went to turn into a driveway in my 88 syncro and hit gutter fairly solidly !
Now when i go mmmm 30 klms plus the steering feels different and there is like a slight humming sound ( well a sound that never was there before as T3s are usually lovely and quiet )
Possible slight vibration in steering wheel
Anyway doesn"t feel or sound normal
So i rotated wheels - no change
Cruises along fine but still not as good as before
So to diagnose and repair would you guys suggest any steering specialist or is there someone in Sydney that can be recommended with a good knowledge of T3 syncros
    thanks
    Craig

Try a steering specialist to give you a wheel alignment. Do not use a tyre service.

Good luck finding someone. You will need it.

Was it the square kerb you hit?
Have you had a good look underneath?

You have possibly damaged the front wheel bearings, a good impact will mark the race and consequntly give a noise/vibration/hum.Get the front end checked for bent parts and possibly replace the wheel bearings and then a good wheel alignment .

Wheels Bearings - its a syncro - not as simple as a standard 2WD T3

I'd be checking the obvious first - diagonal tie rods[IMG]

Yes a good inspection of the front end by a good VW mechanic should be done but tie rods don't make a humming noise.

Tip: Take the wheel alignment specs from The Bentley Manual with you otherwise they will dial up god knows what. I have had good alignments since doing this.

    thanks to all
i went to my local tyres and wheel alignment guy who said the wheel alignment is fine ,and supporting suspension also looks feels normal
He thinks I've damaged a wheel bearing too
So this morning i rang and booked in for next tuesday at Wolfsburg motors
    thank you
Ill let you all know the outcome :)

Checked the tire balance also? Out of balance can change with changing speed.
Another one is check torque on the CV bolts. Not likely to be affected by a hit to a gutter, but worth checking while your there.

So the van went to Jun at Wolfsburg motors ( great T3 mechanic ) and after checking the left wheel (the one that hit the kerb ) then the right wheel, he diagnosed the noise was from the right wheel front bearing !
So he replaced that and did a wheel alignment.
So now the synchro is smooth and quiet !!!
???? so go figure that . Coincidence ????? haha
    Im happy though :)
