Wondering if any of you have travelled the Gwirdir Hwy...runs from Grafton up tp Glen Innes. The climb starts near the Mann River where there are lots of campers and water fun. The elevation there is about 100metres and climbs steadily for 20 kilomerres until you top out at 1100 metres above sea level..awesome climb and a good test for my new three core radiator in my bay kombi(V6 holden)...handled it with cool...but there was cars pulled over with bonnets up it was a 38 degree day...hmm just wondering if my old 1800 motor would have made it!

Yup, did it in my stock 2ltr. no problem.....and we passed a number of water cooled vehicles pulled over with overheating problems.;)
Some folks just don’t know how to approach long hill climbs or maintain their vehicles.....
    Cheers,
    Mark

Blasted up there in "Paladin" had a ball, road partially blocked at top pull in area with a bunch of panting steaming vomiting van towing rubbish cars .

Best 'Northern NSW coast road to top of Tablelands' road.
Wauchope to Walcha choppy in parts. I've punted my R Series BMW up there; fun on a bike.
Kempsey to Armidale last time up there it had major washoouts.
Dorrigo scenic, therefore, gawkers abound with their wandering Camrys and U-Turn challenged Hondas.
Casino to Tenterfield has a twisty rough section inhabited by people who don't understand how throttles, brakes and steering-wheels work in unison.

The drive up Mt Warning gets steep. Did it easy in the old grey 20 years ago with 2nd and 3rd gear taking a combined man of the match award. Was living in it at the time so was pretty loaded.
Did the same drive a few years later in a 60 series diesel towing a trailer when i looped Oz.
No probs on both trips even though there was a few dead cars and campervans busted up on the side of the road.
Drive to the capabilities of your rig and the prevailing conditions and if your maintenance is up to scratch you should be sweet i reckon !
