    Thanks Greg,
Looking forward to the Journey ahead for sure, I've spent the last 12 months working on a car for my daughter a Black 2008 Subaru Forester 2.5L turbo XT
I think the flat four motor got me thinking of my past with the 2 Kombi's I had in me teenage years.
So I said self I need a new project for, I basically tripped over this T3 Ute & as a Builder I can justify it. hahahahaha
    Cheers ChrisR

Well, let’s just get your terminology correct, right from the start.

You own a T3 DC, or T3 Dual Cab, or T3 DOKA....... all good terms, but not a T3 Ute ;)

Thanks for the heads up Grantus,
T3 DC DOKA 6 seater 4 doors, is 4 door unusual because all photos I've seen of the T3 DC Doka's are 3 door....?
    Cheers Chris

I’ve not seen a 3 door DOKA in Australia. Agree, they do seem to be the majority around the rest of the world, but the 280 late model ones sold by VW Australia only from 1990 -1992, I thought were all 4 door ones...... but I stand to be corrected.

I was told once that they were all made 3 door but when sold in Aust they had to add the other door for safety reasons as we are RHD, dont know if its true but its a good explanation.

So all the RHD ones in the UK had a single door on the drivers side? o_O

Gonna do some google searching now....... :p

Your right the panels were butt welded, mine does have marine ply over the hatch & I think the open hatch surround in the tray is salvageable may need some attention/repair.
Let the fun begin... HaHaHa ;)

Ply hatch cover was standard ..... here's a pic of the condition of my SC one - yup it'd seen a tough life as had the tray but after a clean and putting in replacement timber slats it scrubbed up pretty well.

Managed to pop out most of the dints/troughs put into the tray over the years ;)

I just thought it was an importer requirement.

I reckon it was easier to start with a LHD shell and alter it to suit RHD.

The vans we got were all dual slider models which had the drivers side infilled.

Regardless. It was great move. Four doors are the envy of the world.

Looks great that you have managed to revamp the tray & the timber slats look fantastic.

One good thing I have for me is that the guy that I bought it from was an Optimist so it's never seen any hard work in almost 30 years.

Also six seats or better than five (2 rows of 3) ;)

    Cheers ChrisR

Was yours a private import, or sold new by VW Australia?

Which side is your back door on?

The early DOKA's were all 3 door - that importer didnt seem to mind but the more recent importer required 4 doors. So we have lots with 4 doors.

But VW only started importing DOKA’s in Aus in 1990 and stopped in 1992, after selling just 280 of them.

Wasn’t there only one importer in that period?

I think some 3 door versions came here from South Africa with their owners or personal imports.
