Hello VW Kombi enthusiasts in my beloved Australia. My name is Tomas, I'm VW Kombi Syncro owner, and VW Kombi Specialist for repairs + parts in Prague - Czech Rep. (this is the neighbour country to Germany and Austria - countries of origin of Kombis and T25 Syncro ). I visited Australia 20 y. ago, and I crossed your amazing country in a 4 month trip. Unfortunately not with a Kombi, but with Subaru STW 1984. 20.000km through the Red Central and then along the East coast down under. This adventure started my enthusiasm for camping, and then for VW Kombi. Thank you for my admission, it is very nice to read about VW Kombi Comunities around the World
Welcome Tomas to the KC, You may have to return to Australia one day, when allowed and cross Australia in a Kombi. Enjoy it wherever it takes you.
Welcome Tomas @Prag16 to the party that never ends ..... nice intro and hope you enjoy the Kombi Club
Welcome to KC Tomas.... We had plans to visit Europe this year, including Prague, my Father’s home town. COVID has stopped those plans Maybe some time in the future........ Looking forward to your stories. Cheers, Mark
Thank you for Welcome!! Hi Mark, lot of Czechs came to Australia after 1948 and 1968, also my stepsister. My stepbrother-in-law drove T2 Bay Window Camper in '80, he told me he wanted to buy a new one T3 Syncro. But T3 Syncro was not officially offered in Austalia... Is that true?
Hi Thomas, Another welcome from me one of the Australian delivered T3 syncros. From records there were only 2138 factory German / Austrian made t3 syncros in right hand drive and these are shared with a few countries like Australia, Thailand, the UK etc so not a huge amount made it here and they only started coming into Australia in 1987 and import numbers increased in the following years up to 1992. So yes they were officially offered here but only very few. Show us a few photos of your syncro when you can for us to drool over. Cheers
Just as an aside on this. We were in Prague a few years ago and went on a tour boat on the Vltava. There was someone on the tour who was talking Czech to the guide and we thought he was his assistant. Until we sat and had coffee with him and he turned out to be the publican of the Mayfield Hotel in Newcastle!!! Welcome aboard!
My Syncro is a fully equiped 1991 CamperVan with Westfalia Mosaik furniture, SCA highroof and 1.9 mTDi engine. It was rebuilt by me 15 y. ago, from Caravelle CL. The Van was owned by the VW Factory in the first year (1991-1992), and in April 1992 displayed in German Off-Road Magazine after testing - see the scan below. I own my Syncro since 2004. 75% of painting is original paint. (The last 2 pictures is my Subaru 1800 (y. 1984), I'm crossing the Jim Jim Creek to reach Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu NP in 7/2000.)
Yes, we are OK, although our country is in "lock down". Thank you - I was absolutely exited, when I have discovered my Syncro in the magazine... Thank you all for welcome, have a nice year 2021, and drive carefully !!!
@Prag16 Welcome Thomas I was lucky enough to do a business trip to Prague 10 years ago. Of course I loved it. But the biggest surprise was learning the story of the Budweiser beer over there. That pilsner was so fresh so good unlike the American bud.
Hi, I met this Crew Cab somewhere in Queensland 2000 y, probably on Fraser I. Is maybe the owner member here?
