Hi, I am trying to check to see how many RHD CKDs 23 windowwere delivered in Australia in 1963 and how you can tell from the chassis number ?
I k ow you can pay for a certificate but that’s 2-3 months. Is there a local record that confirms which chassis registered in AU are 23 windows? I know it is a may 63, Australian RHD but would like to validate for insurance purposes

    thanks a lot

    Welcome to KC, Jay Pee….
Your insurance company will allow you to insure it for pretty much, whatever you want……you’ll just pay the premium accordingly.
Shannon’s have a great track record with classic cars….I’d be talking to them before any other.
My understanding about the certificates you’re referring to is that they do not cover CKD kombis……only the German assembled vehicles.
    Cheers,
    Mark

Welcome Jay Pee to the KC.
I got Birth certificates for my cars, worthless pieces of Toilet paper:rolleyes::eek:. 4,408 Transporters. were sold in Australia what the breakdown of models sold don't know.
Later model kombis into the bay windows have a second number other then the chassis number which indicates more model specs. Have heard other splitty owners having a second number but never known any connection to indicate model specs.
Not saying they wouldn't but having a insurance company wanting you to validate it provenance!

That would surprise me re Germany no record. Maybe that’s why they are desirable by overseas collectors? Because you can change colours/interiors and it’s not recorded?

Have a look in engine bay, left hand side, just below the horizontal panel that the fuel tank sits on. If it's an AU CKD bus you will see some stampings (letters and numbers). If your bus is a 23 window the letters should be DMB followed by numbers. Let us know what you find. Cheers

Is this the same bus that you are asking about in another Thread ?
    A South African split ?
    Easy to tell the difference.
A ZA built split will have the VW symbol pressed into the nose clip.
