Well the 30 year birthday present has begun!

Although it was fairly presentable, there are some issues I wanted addressed, to hopefully bring it back to it’s former glory.

    As it was:

The areas I want sorted are:

The front dent, caused by a roo impact that managed to flex the steel bar back onto the body, before springing back straight:

    2AFE0FEB-4967-45CF-A966-5D8E27ACEBF3.jpeg

The rear corner, caused by a neighbour who hadn’t grasped the concept of side mirrors, and reversed it into a machine:

    C83BDC9C-234A-4188-BAEF-205C32C60DA5.jpeg

Damage from a farm gate that blew closed whilst halfway through the entrance:

Paint flaking and joins from previous “professional” poorly done repairs, even though it was very well paid insurance work:

    3EF09CB4-77F4-4921-B214-8A4E46487043.jpeg

And of course, the 30 years of “bum slide” exiting the drivers seat:

To save time, I’ve only committed to a full external respray.

It seemed a shame to put so much effort to the exterior, and have the interior looking aged. As there is so little actual exposed paint in a Caravelle, I decided to put the time in to tidy up the interior, so it was doors off first:

Then onto full masking of the external, and a bit of filling and sanding to the inside faces:

    FAAC8CA7-4A51-44E5-A927-480C772485B8.jpeg

    Then into paint:

So sorted a ding in the sliding door internal sill:

And the chips around the front doors caused from flying seat belt buckles:

Next step was to rehang and alighn the doors back onto the body:

    C098E52F-AF4C-43AF-B0EB-544AD75DB270.jpeg

And then remove all the rest of the glass, bumpers, lights, handles & put some steel wheels on, ready for it’s first tray trip ride to the panelbeaters: :)

With it now in the hands of the professionals, it’s time to clean up the towbar/ rear crashbar, & bullbar.

Stripping back ready for primer and top coat, in house.

Yep, definitely a candidate for a resto project. Should look good and able to do another 30 years.

Totally agree - the internal areas of a closed door external re-spray are a big let-down if not done.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

My 2wd white caravelle goes in for an external repair but not a full respray on Monday (If that happens) - I haven't had much luck with panel shops lately.

Meanwhile........back at the ranch, after a few hours of removing all the old paint, the bullbar, towbar and brackets all went into primer:
