hi team. After 3 months of buying a kombi and getting comprehensive insurance they have just called to advise they don’t insure pop top vehicles. Now I get a refund but no insurance. Can anyone advise who they use please?

There are threads here but everyone will tell you Shannons.
    Who were you with?

As long as you have off street parking

There are others that will insure them though

Was with budget insurance. Just annoying after 3 months just cancel it. Thanks for your help.

Yes, we have been happy with Shannons for the Sahara Hilton (plus our 'daily drive' as well, etc.) insurances.
Specifically we mutually agreed, both a less-expensive infrequent-use Premium rate (after completing our Nullarbor crossing to/fro), with a higher-than-book Comprehensive insurance Value, etc., too.
    ..
Should I infer that there may be some Policy fine-print we should be checking related to camping with the (canvas-sided) pop-top hinged-UP ? ?
    ..
    Thanks.

    Ah Sahara,
Been a week of insurance companies for me courtesy of my mum & their cash flow curve. Even reduced the payout ( the insured value) to mum by the rebated (unused rego) . See ...from the moment of the claim it becomes their 'asset' to get the best 'profit' from...& then send my mum a certificate so she could go (to Service NSW) & get back what they had already taken:(
English...your car insured for $5k agreed value. You'll get that less your unused years rego so you won't get $5k. She's a pensioner so gets free rego!
    B**tards
Integrity left town many years ago:oops:
Did ask if they would also refund the balance of the unused insurance premium!
    Not Cheers

Sorry to hear about that disillusioning perspective (but best to clarify, perhaps your Mum's insurer was another Company ?).
Thanks too for the link to http://forums.kombiclub.com/threads/insuring-with-shannons.29183/page-16#post-612886
Read several of the 16 pages, and the many various mixed experiences over the years still are helpful
Must stop - battery flattening <5% !! Reckon I shall chat again with Shannons, after the present "Oil Leaks" are fixed.
    Thank you.

Pretty sure Shannon's cover insurance for cars under restoration as well.
Point being, They will cover for an agreed value based on current valuation then, if asked and if substantiated, increase value later.
    Means you are covered ;)

Do you mean “Budget Direct” ?

If so, I was a gold customer with them, until I removed the rust, bare metal resto, and did a full respray......

Then I became “Captain Risky”, and was told they don’t insure “modified vehicles”.....o_O

I must stress, the only “modification”, was painting a vehicle that was VW white, to a VW blue colour!

    Happily insured with Shannons now....;)

Invest in a Ctek Battery Charger (SCA sell something similar under brand name but they are cr@p) ..... not that expensive for something that works ..... best investment I made to protect the life of the batteries is our 3 cars.

Now I am driven right off topic !! LOL

It was my laptop battery that was dying for want of recharging ..
but, YES I already do have a Ctek, and between her intermitted starts, it keeps Sahara Hilton's battery up constantly.
Recommended by auto-electrician pre-Nullarbor, and no electrical problems since.
So, I would recommend Ctek, too, Igor (or is it Bert !)

Go Shannons, Go Ctek - good insurance both ways ..

To clarify it was not Shannons.
    One that insures pensioners.
    Was just venting my frustration.
    Cheers
