After four years of owning my van and watching the paint gradually deteriorate before the inevitable resto, my kombi 'Otto' revealed more clues of his history this morning, much to my surprise. My van is in an unwashed state to help reduce pressures on our precious water resources;) , and thus dirt has settled in the crazing cracks where the sticky letters once were, revealing evidence of the large lettering that was once under the back window.

Barely visible :wtf: I can make out the words 'POTTERY PERFECTION' and the number 987- or 1 below the text.

My kombi started life in England and we believe he travelled to Italy and Germany before being shipped to Australia. We bought him in Melbourne in July 2006.

Has anyone any memories of POTTERY PERFECTION ?

    Go the rat!

That's a fascinating bit of history! Perhaps you could gently rub the paint back and see if you can reveal more eg a phone number.

I am not sure this helps, but this web template makes reference to an Italian company called Pottery Perfection however it may be fictional:

There is also apparently an Australian company called B & P POTTERY PERFECTION PTY LTD, but I could find no other info

Detective Van Housing you have unearthed more information than I could. I managed to find the faux Italian lead, but I'm convinced that B & P POTTERY PERFECTION PTY LTD were once the owners of my van.

I tried rubbing chalk into the crazing, but I think more dirt or dark paint would give a better result. Washing actually makes the evidence disappear. Rubbing back might eradicate what traces remain of the lettering. I love a good kombi mystery!

instead of chalk, perhaps you could try charcoal, or soot from the exhaust. just a thought

Being a drawing teacher, charcoal is to hand! (~runs out the door with sketching materials...)

Guys, I even tried to phone their old ABN #
Of course I would love to contact them if I could, part the reason for this post. Six degrees of separation, etc. there is always hope.

I would love to know where my old lowlight microbus CQB205 got to. I heard it was painted a colour apart from the original sky blue. It had a red vinyl interior and was sold in central NSW about 20 years ago. Gretal no longer goes under that number plate.

This is the ABN entry for B & P pottery - it was cancelled at the end of 2002:
    http://www.abr.business.gov.au/(if1....aspx?SearchText=097 199 696&StartSearch=True

It was only active for 18 months:

    http://www.search.asic.gov.au/cgi-bin/gns030c?acn=097199696&juris=9&hdtext=ACN&srchsrc=1

However, there is a company currently registered with the same postcode that was called B&P, now PENG, BO
    http://www.abr.business.gov.au/(if1...52c0%252c0%252c0%252c%252c0%26amp%3bstart%3d0

This came up with a search of Peng and Pottery - HDMI cables, but pots as keyword:
    http://www.chinaqualitylighting.com/buy-lifetime_pots/

However, they are listed as an importer of products from China, so unclear if it is the same people:

I noticed the Colorado place pop up a few times in my hunt, but assumed that the business on your kombi was probably too small to relocate - but anything is possible, so no harm in contacting them to find out.
