    Cat looks ok.
    Will send you some photos.

I wouldn't have an issue running the gutted one.
Doubt if you are producing much NOx or CO while running rich and the cat probably won't help the Hydrocarbon issue much
I think excess unburnt fuel can stuff cats so wouldn't fit it untill mixture issues sorted.

Will drop it down next time I'm in bris or give a yell if you are heading up the coast.
    Unless you need it sooner.?

    No rush mate.
I inherited the motor in a real stinking mess. So I will give it a real good clean up then tune up . Mostly the oil leaks everywhere making it smelly. Exhaust leak before the cat doesn't help either.
Alternator belt just about to snap , picked up a new one. Closer inspection reveals that alt bracket has snapped.
You lil ripper I get to practice my (crappy)welding skills.

I need to change the plugs, how do i know if i have a MV or SS? I think different gaps

MV were the only ones sold by VW Australia, so assuming it’s not a private import.....MV.;)

I have an alt bracket for after you weld yours:eek:

Should be some paper stickers on drivers side under dash with gearbox, engine etc details.

Yep, considering my past performances regards to welding i am sure they would never hire me to fix the Sydney harbour Bridge... unless I am allowed to use JB weld;)

Anyway did an hour or so today on Borat the T3.
My kids said i should name it Borat. I was leaning towards " Tiki " with a bamboo island tropical theme , but my daughter does like to push the boundary and might get her way.

Perhaps the engine is not in as bad shape as I first thought. I ordered new engine mounts because it was rocking and rolling really badly but once i removed the very thin and worn alt belt it is a lot smoother. Perhaps the alternator and it's broken bracket was the cause of all the shaking.

Belt now removed, I wanted to run the engine . I had no pantyhose so used 3 strong cable ties to make a new belt to keep the water pump running. It was ugly but it works.
New oil and new filter and suddenly Borat or TikiT3 is not as smelly as before.

A job for this arvo.... fuel gauge does not register.

I am new to T3s. Is it the same as bays? Most likely culprit the sender? Or something in the dash cluster , like that ribbon cable?

I was told the PO did replace the tank so perhaps the wire isn't even connected?
I guess I have to have a poke around up there.

Sadly I will say it is probably the ribbon.
    Have a visual there first.

Best is if you can borrow a cluster and see what’s doing

    Paul,

You can lower the fuel tank slightly - keep a jack on a piece of plywood under it and inspect if your sender wire is attached.

Otherwise buy a replacement gauge cluster or fuel gauge.

I have a spare fuel gauge you can have for the price of postage if you want.

Ripped out the cluster I cannot see anything obviously sinister so I guess I will get my friend Lukey Flukey multimeter on the job. 20190519_165518.jpg
