Today I contacted Monty's original owner. Erwin is 81 and he owned Monty for all but 6 months before we bought him on Ebay almost 4 years ago.

I tracked Erwin down when we first got Monty and he filled me in on his history and it was obvious how it had pained him to part with his beloved work 'truck'. Andy and I promised to look after 'his truck' and one day try to visit him to show him that we had kept that promise.

Well Erwin lives 1100 klm south of here and just happens to be close to Narooma where we will be attending this years Bus Stop :) We may never get another opportunity to show him off to Erwin so it's Monty who will be packed and heading south this time and not our camper Molly.

Erwin was so excited when I told him today, I offered to drive up to see him but he insists on driving down to Narooma to meet us and look at everyone's kombis. Unfortunately his wife Jan is now in a nursing home and won't be able to make the trip.

I can't wait to meet Erwin and look forward to hearing what he thinks of what we have done to 'his truck'.

I'd be interested to find the OG owner of my SC, a Mr Sidney Griller. I have had a hunt but have found no leads any ideas? He was an itinerant fruit and veg. gardener/seller....

I was sadden to receive a phone call from Erwin's Nephew last week informing us that Erwin has passed away in December. His Nephew was going through Erwin's paperwork and found the letters, emails, photos I had sent over the years and wanted to let us know how much he loved hearing about his 'truck' and his adventures. His Nephew told me how he had grown up riding in his Uncle's Kombi.

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to track Erwin down and meet up with him in Narooma and show him Monty after his gentle restoration. I continued to send cuttings of any photos of Monty that were printed in magazines/book and made the occasional phone call, I'm so glad I did.
