I met Mal Leyland today and he said the reason that they sold the Kombis is because they were too small. They were reliable and the brothers were surprised how good they were off road. They went many places where 4wds would struggle.

He gave an interesting talk about meeting his wife. She drove a Beetle. He was already attracted to her and the second time that they met her Beetle wouldn't start. She pulled out an old cloth and removed the distributor cap to clean inside. Replaced the cap and the car started. Mal thought, "How good is this". He was engaged in 3 months and married in 4 1/2 months.

Was probably just enough time for the flooded beetle to clear itself ? :D

She had a go at it and did a sensible thing. More than some of the fault finding on this forum.

I'm not critical of those learning.
As long as they cover themselves somehow.
Better to know how to sort a couple of common issues than sit in the hot sun waiting.

I think he is in Toowoomba. He was at the camping show in Moss Vale doing a talk but there was only about 5 people there, so anyone could have talk with him. He just came up and said, "Hi Phill. How's the syncro going?"

I read his book a few years ago. I really enjoyed it. Incredible blokes how they kept coming g up with new ideas. Unfortunately the banks destroyed them in the end. He tells a story how his wife came with an idea for a new TV show that would show how to cook - they were told it wouldn't catch on LOL Now TV is littered with he rubbish.
