Just got home from a fabulous day at Manly - this event was sponsored by Volkswagen to celebrate 70 years of the kombi and to tie in with the Vissla Sydney Surf Pro at Manly. Early start from Dobroyd but nicely co-ordinated so we didn't arrive en masse at the Corso and create havoc. The goodie bag provided by Volkswagen was definitely worthwhile with a great canvas bag, T-shirt, key ring and beach towel - someone even left a couple of stickers on my front seat during the day. We were given a free lunch and a drink at the Steyne Hotel with a fantastic view over the beach - it was a gorgeous sunny day in Manly today so a few drinks went down very easily! VW had 2 Multivans on display that were lovely to look at - I know if money was no object, I would not hesitate to add one to the family - and they were not as expensive as I thought. Great to catch up with lots of KC members and a big thanks to Mark and Sue for letting us stay last night instead of having to come down the highway in the dark this morning. I will be sending VW a thank you email for sponsoring and telling them how well the day went - I hope they do this one again next year! I am sure more people will add photos. The view from the Steyne Hotel - the trees were in the way to show all of the kombis. Frank and Whitie Sue's new bunting: I did post this elsewhere as well but I had to laugh that this guy's boardies almost matched my curtains!!
Couple more photos of today's events in Manly First two photos are of our meeting point at Dobroyd Scenic drive @melissa photo below bottom right look who is walking past.
100% Melissa, well explained. A great day hangin about on the iconic Manly beach front with like minded kombi's So well organized, literally 'on the beach' parking, a free Beer at the pub & they even supplied gifts!!! what's doin??? Must attend event, hope its regular.
Thank you Phill - that would be great - I sent an email to the Manly organiser and asked her for a contact but if you can give it to me that will speed things up - sorry I missed you today!!
Totally agree Melissa, this was a fantastic day, Kombi's just seem to catch the imagination of people, Cathy and I came along and we just loved talking to so many people about their kombi stories and memories. Also strongly noticed that the interest is across all nationalities, all ages and sexes, soo much fun and thanks VW for the free stuff!!! Here are some pics
Thanks for the pics. folks !! Yes, it was an awesome day from start to finish.......and, like a well maintained kombi, it all went like clockwork. The cruise down from Dobroyd was well handled with groups of 10 kombis leaving at a time, with a 10 min. interval between groups. This allowed folks to stay together with minimal disruption to other traffic and also provided the traffic controllers at Manly beachfront plenty of time to escort vehicles in safely. Our goodies bag was full of VW endorsed product and the Ltd. edition T is a definite keeper The free lunch & beer was provided at the Moonlight Bar above the Steyne hotel, overlooking the kombis and onlookers.....and it was really good !! So many happy folks looking at our kombis and wanting to know all about them...... it was a really positive, stoke filled day. Bugger all surf wise but the weather was perfect. Nice to catch up with the regulars and make new friends too. In all a fantastic event organised by VW & partnered with Surfing World and Northern Beaches Council. I think this will be one of those "must do " events that we pencil into our new calendars at the start of every year..... Thanks, as always, to Melissa for the Mars Bar, & other , slices that kept our sweet tooth cravings at bay. Cheers, Mark
Agree with all your comments Mark.....including this one... but can't really put that on the organisers!
Another great Kombi event ! …and the weather was just right. Nice to see everyone and have a good chat, and some chill-out time together.

Hello, First time posting here. I signed up to this forum as some of the people I spoke to said they liked and wanted the photos I took. I have uploaded to dropbox all of the photos as I can only upload 1mb photos here, while each are about 25mb in full size. I have reduced the size so they arent too heavy for everyone to see. But if you see your Kombi and want the full resolution, let me know and I can send it to you for free. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ywolgpouh8qptpm/AAChztSPYmQXuucOZ5t8ggDsa?dl=0
Great pics guys, and looks like a “must do” day out for the local calendar. But I gotta ask Mel........ do your new curtains look like boardies, or does that guys boardies look like curtains?
