It probably does look like that but as Mark said - these guys are old school and know their stuff. It's just unfortunate that it wasn't easily sorted by a blocked breather or similar.

I have not really added much to this thread over the last 18 months. Lots of things have happened with the motor going in and out again, seizing, being rebuilt, trying to find where the oil mist problem was coming from, rebuilding the original motor - lots of frustrating mishaps with my motor involving tow trucks taking her back to the mechanics - well enough is enough. As most would have seen from the Roadside Assistance photos from last Sunday, she died again on the way to Sydney. That meant the mechanics had 4 days to get her back on the road for me to use tomorrow and Saturday. They have performed a miracle, pulled my old motor out of their shed, got it going again, ripped out the seized motor and stuck it in ready for me to pick up after work today. A real miracle seeing that one of the mechanic brothers that have been looking after her got taken to hospital on Monday night with heart trouble, which left just 1 to work on Little Red all by himself since Tuesday morning. He was still in hospital today as far as I am aware.

This has been a pretty stressful week all round but it has made up my mind that I am not sticking to 1200 6V any more - I will be going to a single port 1600 and upgrading to 12V. I am sad that she wont be original any more but I just cant do it any longer. It's not the speed I am after, it's reliability and longevity. Stay tuned.

That's good she is a known the road again!

Original is great for some people and some circumstances but when you need her to perform a job than going for reliability is king.

It's not good having an all original vehicle that doesn't go! Looking forward to see the progress.

Glad she's back up and running again.:)

After what you've been through, persevering to keep it original is fine for "show ponies", but the reliability upgrades seem a wise choice, for your "work horse". ;)

    Smart move Melissa.

But stick a 1776 in there- then she will go like a red rocket!

yeah ha....good one with the engine upgrade!!.
I no were you are coming from with keeping it original , but your trying to run a business out of it so your right with needing reliability.
There only bolt in items so you can always change it back again.
Put your 1200 engine in the garage and you,ll still have it to go back to it if you want later on.
    cheers chuck

Here is a few shots of some progress:
    Stock standard 1200:

With the motor coming and out so many times over the last 12 months, this is how my engine seal ended up - was replaced today with a new one.

Boots were found to be leaking, these have been replaced:

Not taking any more risks - having a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge fitted - these holes had already been covered over in the dash before I bought Little Red - I knew they were there as there was a few cracks starting to show:

This is the 1600 before all the new bits got added and the tinware resprayed:

    Almost finished

    Ready for install:

There is a small video of the motor finished and running but I can't upload it. All new fuel lines, gearbox oil changed. I get her back on Friday and I have to drive it to Sydney on Saturday - am I mad?? YES!!!

as said - stick the original parts in storeage for a rainy day

will need to be a trained eye to tell the difference between a 1600 single port and the 1200

With the amount of vehicles we have, I highly doubt I won't make an appearance there at some stage - just not with Little Red :)

Knowing such a minuscule, irrelevant amount of mechanical info Melissa, all I can say is the 1600 sure looks pretty! :)
