    Yeah.
They do pack mentality actions at times and block the Bruce Highway to do RBT and check every car that looks sus. Other than that , patrol s will check at any time.
Pays not to attract attention and have it r.w.

My kombi had the Sopru poptop roof which fell to bits so i bolted a sheet of bunnings ply on temporarily....mmm temporary can be as long as you like...but got sick of no head room so off with that sheet of ply WP_20180519_003.jpg
and on with a new sheet which i cut a big hole in and started building internal walls

    WP_20180519_003.jpg WP_20180524_001.jpg
using the stitch and tape method makes it easy

    WP_20181101_001.jpg
    WP_20181101_002.jpg
    put the roof on

    WP_20181203_001.jpg

ok its got enough fibreglass holding it together so took the 40 bolts out and took it downstairs(with my sons help) to finish off...it is very light

    WP_20181206_001.jpg

heheh should make a boat out of it

    WP_20181206_003.jpg

started trimming and smoothing the whole thing will be covered in fibreglass cloth and hatches and porthole installed...better get cracking as she who must be conveyed desires to be in Tamworth again in january!

So much interior storage Tillis. I was a bit unsure at the start being a 'purist' but that's looking great. Excellent:cool:.

Its "interesting" But can it really be lighter than the really heavy poptop? it looks quite heavy, and way less aerodynamic.

Got my xmas shopping done and obligatory housework...so kombi time!
where was I? oh yeah plywood cabin top...added some varnish...

    WP_20181220_002.jpg

mmm nice but kinda virginal ...time to rip it up after all this kombi is bad....

    WP_20181220_004.jpg

    WP_20181220_005.jpg

I scored "plank" lines in it all and added some "caulking" a la "Black Pearl"...but this will be the "Blue Pearl"...well for a while anyway....

    WP_20181220_007.jpg

some work tomoro sanding and varnishing the inside and then put it on top of the bay which is fast becoming blue!

I keep thinking I'm nearly done but there is always more...only the foolhardy or bold...or both...take on a prototype project...yeah I'm a fool but I'm bold too...enough crap

fitted insertion rubber so new cabin roof has a soft ride

    WP_20181227_001.jpg

varnished the inside...the ply grain is nice...

    WP_20181227_002.jpg

turned it over and fitted one bronze porthole....just a test fit... will apply silicon when i'm happy with it all

    WP_20181227_003.jpg

nearly there but the rush is on for Tamworth end of january and is Mallacoota possible?

For those of you with original fibreglass pop top roofs...the job Sopris did was crap...the hole hacked out with a cold chiesel rough as guts and the flimsy glass roof held on with pathetic little self tapping screws....would never pass any engineering survey...enough....I'm happy with my roof!

OH Tillis....what can I say:rolleyes:......... Looks like a very viable alternative to stock Sopru;). I'm a purist but that looks okay esp with the big wheels:). Now just to decide if it's a Kombi or a boat going somewhere:eek:. I guess that will depend on which way up it is:D.
    Cheers

Thanks David...there are plenty of camper versions of the kombi and with my limited knowledge only the 'westphalia' is VW...so this one is 'black pearl' by Rob! I love my kombi and for me this top makes it more loveable! cheers

Kombi is parked on the street and in case there was doubt of its origin I make a new VW symbol at front...the original was nicked years ago...this is Labrador after all! WP_20190105_003.jpg

and while i was at bunnings deciding colours picked up this nifty little fan...$8'95 but needs usb connection...which my 'fusion 'head deck just happens to have works like a charm
