Ok finally after 4 1/2 years I finally have a name for my Kombi. I was not going to name it for the sake of a name, was not even sure of its gender and was waiting for something to hit me...well it did recently when my Uncle Vern died...a great guy who everyone loved and it just seemed right that the old bus would carry his name, so introducing 'Uncle Vern'.

    I Like it.

I have a cat named after my father and a dinosaur named after my brother.

Should I seek help for that? Probably.

A kombi's name always eventually comes to you...
whether its of the kombi's history, look, personality, event etc...
    ...it will come....
not to be rushed by no means...
& when it does....it all then comes together...

I am sure Uncle Vern would be honoured to have his name bestowed on something you also shared a piece of your life with...

Thanks for everyones kind words, hoping Uncle Vern will become my daily driver this year.

Now Rawdy you will have to fill us in on how you named a dinosaur after your brother?

Bobby, did Uncle Vern have a few screws loose?;)

The first time I meet Bobby was on the side of the road where he came to a grinding holt after his beautiful splittie had thrown a wheel. It was just out of the workshop where the mechanics had not tightened up the wheel nuts:eek: Thankfully there wasn't too much damage to the newly restored unnamed splittie.

I'm sure Uncle Vern is looking down on you and your kombi with a big smile on his face.

Ha Ha Lorraine, yep Vern had a few screws loose, it is a pre requisite for being part of our family :) . I still leave the hub caps off to check the wheel nuts reguarly! (the most damage was to the commodore coming in the opposite direction)

And Judy is right it is all one big adventure when you own a Kombi, the older they are the bigger the adventure!

Hey Bert what did your uncle think about you spending the money on personalized plates, its great you still have them.

I will throw some pics up once the 'cosmetic' changes I am working on at the moment are finished

Good old Max thought it a little strange but when I epxlained why and that I would always have them as a reminder of him and his gift he was quite taken by it.

Only other thing I still got from my 21st is a Malleys Esky (from then neighbours) and a platter and silver goblets from my parents.

Back in 1974 you didn't have many options - Black background and White print - 2 alphas and the Transport Dept (RTA) in NSW) allocated 3 numbers so I got AW-581.
