I purchased new drums a couple of years ago and have only recently tried to fit them to my 73 van. They are a fraction too big, interfering with the backing plate. Anyone struck this before?

Have you checked that the backing plate isn't bend at all,and if so bend it outwards to make the drum fit. Haven't heard of that before.

Hi, backing plate not bent, the new drums are just that little bit larger diameter than the originals

If larger how are they interfering with the backing plate?? Should be 'free roaming' & larger giving more room?.
    Cheers

There were changes in rear drum sizes around that period.
    Check dimensions.

Rear drums are all the same from 71 thru to 79. Shoes, backing plates and everything in between changes slightly thru the years. The drum still should fit. If it doesn't fit call the place of purchase.Show them photos of where it doesn't fit. Where are they made, poor quality?
