Greetings and salutations from the digitally delirious I think some new shoes are in order for Easter for my white 1976 Poptop Camper with black bullbars. I also have the yet to be installed smoked rear light lenses with coloured globes. A few questions for those in the know: 1. will either of these bolt straight onto my 76 camper (yes the stud pattern is correct). 2. Any issues with them carrying the weight of the camper and middles aged driver with expansive middle? 3. Will I be able to do a full steering lock turn? I'm after black as the camper is white! Show us your pictures if you have these on yours!? Cheers Mark
Is your van lowered at all? Pretty sure you will need long studs and / or bolts ET 20 is out there but stock Kombi should be fine. They will poke out further than stock. Full steer turn will be fine. As for weight “believe” it is ok.
As Barry said.. Lowered may be an issue with touching on wheel arch on front under compression. Particularly when turning. Otherwise ok. Off top of head they will need to be rated at 680 kg or more. Note wheel stud issue. ( They fit with stock studs but thread length contact for nut is only 12mm. It should be nearer 19mm. ) https://tiresize.com/calculator/ 205 is widest you want to go for 5.5" rim. Stock dia is 650 mm. Being a camper I would stick closeish ( 650-663 ) but if not heavily loaded and pulls well with stock tyres you could go out to 668mm which would include 205/70.15. If it has chipboard cupboards, tanks , a bit of camping gear then maybe 205/65.15 ( 648mm)
Tried the smoke lens look but was advised by a friend who had followed me that the lights were not very visible. Decided efficiency was better that looking cool. Wondering what the llegal requirements are??
Thanks - I knew it couldn’t be as simple as I thought! My understanding is the smoked lenses are a no no, but I like cool!
Al as a person who used to work as a road safety inspector for the beloved govt dept the answer is yes illegal wipe them clean also reflector colour using white or clear type reflectors are also a no no all reflectors to the rear must be red .The headmaster will cane you so get ready put that phone book down your duds
Window tint also a no no ok on the windows behind the driver but not on rhf or lhf cant remember the light allowance but each state is different
