Hello! matt from the Gold Coast here (DrowningBitByBit in honour of my atrocious surfing). I don't have a Kombi yet... I'm just embarking on The Big Search. I had a wedge back in the UK 15 years ago, then planned on getting a Kombi when I got to Australia, but it didn't work out when I was first here... then something came up... then the price went up... then something else came up... etc etc.
Long story short, after having a little whimper every time I saw a T2 for the last 10 years, I've finally got the cash ready to go for a van for day trips, surf trips, weekend trips and the occasional longer run.

Good to be here and see the scene still thriving.

    There will be questions.

Welcome, Matt! Good luck finding your kombi. It took me over year of searching until I found the right one, but it was worth the wait. :)

Welcome to the Kombi Club Matt! :)

It’s been proven many times, that Kombi’s do eventually find their owners.

    Enjoy the ride....... ;)

Hi Matt & welcome to the Kombi Club;). Your bus will find you when it should. Keep searching for your bus & maybe go for a surf with Dan @Surfing72. Looks like he could teach us all a bit:).
    Cheers

Thanks for the welcome everyone! :)

The search starts/continues today... by which I mean reading the wonderful threads on things to look for, looking at what's out there, and continually revising my budget upward

That's it, I'm officially a member of the Kombi club! I'm now the proud owner of a 1974 Bay camper in a light green/turquoise two-tone classic paint job!

I had anticipated a long search here, there and everywhere, but after only a week or so as a vanless member of the Kombi club, John's (gabba69) van came up for adoption in Brisbane and it was more or less perfect. I picked the van up yesterday from Brisbane (which involved a scarily steep and tight driveway with lots of things to crash into) and tootled home happy as anything to the Gold Coast in the pre-Christmas lack of traffic. And last night we had a bottle of champagne in the van outside the house to celebrate

Not much needs doing immediately - mechanically almost entirely sound, but I will be rearranging things on the inside a bit, and the Mrs is keen to get in there to make it bright and pretty with some new paint for the cupboards and some curtains.

What a Christmas present, even if it was from myself!
