    Hi everyone,

I'm new and this is my girl Hildegard von Bingen, manual, 2.1L, 1989, T3 Transporter. She has always been called that as far as I know. I bought her late 2012. Had a jolly old time with no real understanding of VW's. Engine seized in 2014. Replaced with second hand block and all old parts kept on it, late 2015. Now in the process of learning to do basic work myself and I want to gradually get her ship shape and use authentic parts if possible. She is running and registered but has some surging at cold start and when warm idles fast. Also her Temp needle isn't working but coolant light is. Ive had some advice on Facebook but I know this is the place to be for all things Kombi. I would love to get engine fully reconditioned by someone who would let me be their lackey and learn from them as they do it. I'm doing lots of reading.

Hope to get some help/advice, maybe parts and find a great VW mechanic within 300kms of Coffs Harbour but am willing to travel for the right person for the job.

    Cheers Shelli

Hi Shelli welcome to KC. When running nice there is no better van than a T3 & yours looks nice. Have you replaced the Temp2 sensor on the side of the thermostat housing, can cause fast idle and rich running when faulty, not too expensive to replace.
Parts can be bought in Australia
    Tooley Imports
    Justkampersaustralia
    USA I like
    www.vancafe.com
    www.gowesty.com
but there are tons of others oseas where you can get anyrhing you want, except Alice of course - Arlo Guthrie :)

Hahaha oh yeah, Ive heard of Alice's Restaurant from my dad but he passed away at 59 about 8 years ago.

So the supplier gave me a screw in temp sensor and I have just the flat plug ones, anyway it seems the sensor to the left of the thermostat is working fine but the one toward the front of the van had a broken wire, melted plug and the sensor is below 1 on the volt metre. So I will get a new one which fits delivered tomorrow and I have to find a plug to fit it, seems no one has one, though I havent tried Graham at Volkswerks yet.
I other news the air intake after the sensor was loose and leaking so I have bought a wider securing thingy with the tightening screw as the old one was too narrow and that seems to be holding the seal really well, but I havent started her up yet. Im so excited to be working on her myself and actually getting somewhere. Its so much fun!
