This time around I thought I would start a thread before I put so much work into the car that I had no hope of catching up. Fingers crossed I remember to update regularly o_O

A while ago I bought a new nice T3 caravelle, not because I was looking but because it was for sale around the corner from me. I've always liked the T3 over the bay and particularly the split (no offence intended, but you have to be a mad to drive those things) or maybe it's because my parents bought an AC T3 over from germany when we migrated and much of my youth is great memories of camping out of the back of that beige tin can.
Fast forward somewhat, I have spent a bucketload of time and money on the Caravelle since I bought it and continued to make it more comfortable. But I miss my camping out of the back of the van and no matter how much I consider putting a rock and roll bed or a pop top on the Velle I can't help but think, ''This is a great tintop, it deserves better than to be butchered''

    Then something silly happened.

This monstrosity came up on carsales and no matter how much I tried to talk myself out of it I bought it ( I blame Nick for being a bad influence and Scott for doing a rubbish job of talking me out of it)

    Nils,

Despite its "minor" issues - its still a genuine westy syncro multivan with all the fruit - so I am still jealous of your new acquisition.

I am sure it will be sorted and shiny very soon.

Plus you currently have the velle to drive around in whilst you are sorting out the new camper....that cant be a bad thing.

This looks like the one that I saw about 15 years ago for sale.

Is it about an '86 model ex USA?

Had to look twice myself - right hand slider :p

Interior looks tidy and no doubt you'll sort the any other issue(s) out ;)

Its an 88/89? a few things pointing one way and a few the other. I would say not US Phill, going by this sticker.

I pulled the tail shaft out today, due to some vibration problems it has. Which I guess has alot to do with how many of these I am finding.

Scott you are right, and realistically is the reason I bought it.

That has got me a few times already Kahuna, get out of the drivers side, walk to the passenger side, look stupid,..... and then head back to the drivers side

Post up the VIN. That'll tell us something.

...and the body and "M"codes when you get a chance.

This will be interesting to find out.

Westfalias only come with a right side slider. I don't know if they were available in RHD or what countries in Africa they were sold to. It has SA grilles, but they could have been retrofitted at any time.

Looks to be a Carat interior, if it was a factory Westfalia wouldn't it have the stove, fridge etc. More likely the top and rear cupboard were a later add on.

    Still a nice buy.

No this is a genuine Westfalia Multivan imported in LHD and converted to RHD.

This is the westfalia day van layout - they had this as an option or the full kit with the works (fridge stove etc).
