Hey there, thought I'd continue documenting our new years road trip here, been posting the first few camps in the "show us your campsite thread". Our "canned due to covid" TAS trip has turned into this NSW trip and we're having a ball! Left Syd on the 29th Dec and had 2 rainy but beautiful nights at Wombeyan caves. Then new years eve with my brother who manages a station near Young. Two amazing nights on lake Wyangan near Griffith and currently at a camp in Hay on the Murrumbidgee river. Have no real plan which is the beauty of this trip, just seeing where it takes us. May head out to Mungo national park but camp is booked out tonight and rain is about but have booked a site there for the 8th. Looking at either heading down toward the Murray or possibly up to Menindee lakes.
Dirt roads and mud!! Trying to keep Gertie looking pristine but reality is winning. Shes running amazingly well, touch wood, accelerator peddle started sticking but was just a buildup of dirt pulled it off cleared up the hinge and now returning beautifully
Love a good road trip. Outback NSW rocks for doing this. Lots of back roads, old fashioned pubs and interesting places to see. Chicken Parma for lunch and a light meal at dinner with a bottle (or 3) of red. What better place to see the Milky Way than the Hay Plains. Great sun sets as well
Just checked the weather. Clear skies and a New Moon on the 13th January. Cracking conditions at the moment for star watching / satellite / fall stars. Gets a bit warm the end of next week
Good stuff Jeff......been pi55ing down on and off on the coast for nearly two weeks now..... Great that you can get out and about......and in the sunshine ! Cheers, Mark
Headed out from Hay today after topping up the water tank, food and bourbon supplies. We were going to head toward Menindee lakes for some paddleboarding but the road from Ivanhoe to Menindee is closed. Decided to head toward Balranald instead and found a lake at Oxley for tonight's camp, pic below. We're on black soil so rain is not in the plan, thankfully none predicted for here
Yep we've been checking the weather constantly, most of NSW getting rain at the moment which is why we've been pushing further south and west....going to run out of State soon!!
You don't want rain on Black soil, gets quite sticky better then, you know what! Enjoy your trip, trip envy.
Good road to Pooncarie from Wentworth Jethro oŕ hit the Silver City Hwy to the Hill and back out to Menindee that way. Just watch out for the big grasshoppers!
Sitting here right now, this is as close as we'll get to the forbidden land, on the Nth side of the Murray looking south at Euston. Watching all the happy folk waterskiing off the southern bank!!
