Mungo nat park is closed due to rain so we're gonna head up to Menindee via Pooncarie and try Mungo in a day or two.
Cold Chisel fans will appreciate this pic, stopped (not boiling..ha) exactly "20 miles out of Euston" listening to "home and broken hearted" . Great to have an air cooled but my first car was a 59 morris and I can feel Jimmy's pain !!
Living in a rural area, those signs are actually a fair call. You get a lot of careless idiots, that don’t give a stuff about anyone else, and feel they can behave in any negligent way they feel. At least they can’t claim they weren’t warned, if their irresponsible behaviour is taken to task.......
We moved further westward along the Murray and found this amazing spot on the river about 15kms out of Gol Gol, near Mildura for tonight. The Murray is very spectacular to sit beside with a glass of Chardy or 2
All free camps Barry except the first night at Wombean caves as it was a nat park, it was $24. The one at Griffith on lake Wyangan is free, provided by the council as was the one at Hay on the Murrumbidgee. Oxley is a very remote locality north of Balranald so the one there was just a lake we spotted on google earth (lake Comayjong) and found a track to, no fences or gates and nobody around so we just stopped for the night. Last night was also free on crown land, bottle bend reserve, and maintained by dept primary industries, pic below. We're booked for two nights in Mungo nat park so that one will be $24 per night also
Just stopped on the NSW side of Mildura, cooking up a bacon and egg roll for breaky and saw the Rothbury steam by
Restricted from going into Vic unfortunately so were heading north and back around mid nsw from here sort of, see where the road takes us!!
That's the Mildura lock 11 weirpool Barry, the Rothbury is diesel powered the similar PS Melbourne is steam powered.
Thanks @Wattie , sorry we couldnt get over to Mildura this time, good to hear theres still at least one live steamer around. It's easy to think the river is a natural wonder but really it's a human controlled structure these days. Sitting at Pooncarie now on the Darling and the cafe owner saying this section is on trickle feed and looking very low.
I just had a “virtual walk around” Pooncarie on Google Maps. Pub, Cafe, Post Office, a dozen houses and a toilet block. Love it. Glad the pub is still going
