Kombi spotting in the Jeep Spent the day at Coolangatta with the girls and on the way home tonight we spotted two Kombis (orange bay/blue bay) tonight heading northbound on the Pacific Motorway.Im assuming they were coming back from Old Bar...anyway gave them both a BIG beep as we passed in the Jeep. Once again no pics...but it did happen. G'day guys hope you had a great weekend....we certainly did.
looking at the pics from sat it was alot better than today.was a good day even though it rained really bad from 10ish.....did any one get a pic of the 4x4 split???? and more to the point, i left early to get home for a 4.00 start tomorrow, so what was the kombi tally....bring on r.t.t.s
I think the total was 216 - which beats last years amount. Its a shame there are still Kombis parked outside or left in the caravan park so they are not included in the tally. Fantastic weekend to catch up with everyone - the weather was terrible! I would have to say that was the worst for any event I have been to in the last 5 years - and I shouldn't whinge because I had a cabin. It just makes things uncomfortable and miserable for everyone, but not much can be done about it. Congratulations to Andy and Lorraine for Best Display, to Andy Roberts for Best Split award with his Samba and Jim and Jules from Wentworth Falls won best T3. Already booked for next year.
I took too long to write that post - thanks Jon. Also should mention the crappy traffic conditions near Buladelah - hurry up RTA - merging 3 lanes into one does not make for smooth flow ...grrrrrr
It was also my worst ever kombi camping experience! The caravan park manager was very pleasant and I have also booked for next year.
does anyone have details of all the winners i left once the rain set in - so i missed seeing who the prize winners were
This time was my 2nd visit to old bar and was disappointed last year as there were only about 2 T4s, and 1 T5 but there were quite a few more this year just a shame the weather was so terrible to get time to sit and chat with everyone or even just take some pics!! But as usual my family and my vw is all I need to have a good time, throw in lots more vws and Im in heaven Ps LOMBI I really wanted to check out your bay but just to hard with rain and kids etc. do you have a build thread? Nik
TRy this link - alsoo see my photobucket link http://forums.kombiclub.com/showthread.php?t=21855&highlight=lombi cheers
We had a long chat with the owners of this van. It was a DIY camping conversion of a T5 Crewman For those with some spare cash who want a camper "off the shelf"
Even though the weather was lousey we had a huge turnout of Kombis - great effort by all. This year I didn't take many photos, but have included these two. One of a skydiver landing during the opening ceremony, and one of this stunt pilot, doing an upside down loop - was fun to watch this crazy guy doing his stuff. Was good to catch up with other KC folk from far and wide. On the way back to Sydney - seems like everyone who was on holiday had left the same time as us - traffic was madness !!
Well we made it home but I would have to say that was the wettest camping trip and trip home we have ever had. It was terrific to catch up with everyone again but I think we all need web feet next time. I cant believe I canceled our cabin and changed to a powered site. The trip home was long and very wet, both inside and outside of the car. We struck water over the road in two spots, both before and after Ballina. The traffic was banked up for miles in both directions.
