Perhaps if it was promoted as a "Record Attempt" and not a Show & Shine then we may well get more.
I already thought it was............
That's the only reason I was there - nothing "showy" or "shiny" about my poor workhorse...
i believe that they used to?
Not bagging the event ,[which is great and pity I didn't make it this year ] but think 'record attempts' can be a bit overdone. Bit like 'surf and kombi' events up here being promoted as 'only 'or 'first of their kind' ] considering some new ones get far less than a third of established events and are in ignorance of the history of similar events..
Same with 'show and shine'.
Hard to find an alternative title but my view is that its great to have a get together with everyone's ride or project all displayed but 'show and shine' elicits a picture of something that's closer to the genuinely restored/modified/original/unique examples of all varieties within the stated genre'.
'Record attempt' should be more than a cheap advertising blurb.
but definitely retain the event .
I have no objection to a reasonable entrance fee as a fundrasiser for the effort put in but some get unrealistic and pretentious.
Additionally not all of us consider our rides to be show material but enjoy the chance to aggregate.
I believe that some of the parkers had registered and paid to enter so they did get a number and were counted, even though they didn't actually move their kombi from the caravan park.
That cool.....so long as the count reflects the number of Kombi's that attended the festival, not just the ones on the field.
I would agree with that - I know mines not very shiny but I was speaking to a fellow syncro nutter who had to stay in the van park to allow his two young kids to sleep at their various 2hr intervals.
Another was slightly disabled and it was too hard to pack up and move.
But it was fun - what an awesome weekend!
great pics everyone, some nice rides on show. Out of curiosity, do any beetles turn up ?
14 beetles showed up on Saturday. 4 of them were ours.
some people are full of S##t Scott
yours is definitely in the 'pretty schmick and desirable ' range
Yes Jim, there was a fantastic row of nice classic beetles, and as stated above, 4 of them were associated with KC member "mr930".
We even had a new beetle parked badly with the T3's for a while, that Luckyphil had the displeasure of meeting the "charming" owner....
He very politely asked if it was possible to move it just one space back to fit another T3, and was firmly answered with a very terse NO!
Within the hour, she came back and announced - "I'm going to park with the other beetles, so you can have your space now!"
The members at "T3 Island", were quite amused!
So Grant seems she removed her cranial anal suppository Why do those pretentious people like to make idiots of themselves for
I actually thought it was just a kombi "record"attempt - not a kombi/ beetle event??
I like beetles but ......
I learnt that with I need a bigger awning to accommodate the growing number of T3 drivers/drinkers.
Great event....I posted over 200 photos on the facebook site
Now who is going to revolks in Lorne and Geelong ?
Bit off an overload of Kombi vans, So much so I only took a couple of photos.
The heat was the biggest killer, I could have looked all day but with not much shade in between the heat was getting to much.
Loved this sticker on the back of one of the T3s in the T3 corner.
This Westy was stunning
73Vdub watching people walking past
Such a pretty blue that I would be worried about birds flying into it
Drooling over this Double Cab..
Such a good looking Beetle that I had to take a photo
Hopefully this works
Cool little clip mate !!
Great to catch up again…..hopefully again soon
Brilliant, works just fine.
Loved that 'slow vehicle' magnet on the back of the splitty.
