Hi Surfing 72, The lovely Karen and I Rob are from the Goldie also and planning 'Old Bar' as well and not interested in $55/night either...I travelled america for 8 months once in a van and never paid to sleep...they call it "boondocking". So we will be boondocking old bar and close to the water as possible...will let you know what we find. Love your surfing pics btw.

I know it’s been posted before......but I’m going to post it again...
Old Bar long weekend is a “target” weekend for the local authorities......you will find great places that you THINK are out of the way.......but many are fined or moved on very quickly when it’s evident that you hope to free camp.
I’m not saying don’t do it, just be ready to move quickly when asked/directed.....the penalties are far greater than the camping tariffs......
    Cheers,
    Mark

If there's any unpowered sites left on the airstrip, Lanis's long weekend camping rate is $165 for one or two adults.

    Hi Peter,
You are truly front row seat for one of the most amazing weekends:D if you go with Lanis. Partner will spend more than that at the markets;).
    Cheers
P.S. You may not get much sleep!

You’ll find that all the campgrounds have a minimum three night stay......it’s the Long Weekend.
That’s how the tariff adds up so quickly.
    Cheers,

I have never had any issues with noise at night. Lanis management ensure that noise is kept to a minimum

Especially Saturday night with dubber revellers reuniting after 12 months.
So good luck losing an hours sleep. Daylight saving kicks in Sunday 2.00am.

    Yes, but that would be,
"stay one night, choose not to stay the other two paid for...."
    ...wouldn't it....? ;)
Lots of folks share rental townhouses/houses on the streets just outside Lanis but within an easy walk to the showgrounds.
That way you could do "The Circuit".....a leisurely beer at the KC sites in Lanis.......then on to the showground (for more beers..) and catch the Club Old Bar shuttle to the club for dinner (and more beers).
    Saves a wobble home !!
    Cheers,
    Mark

Who would have thought VW owners were so poor/stingy to pay $165 for one of the best weekends of the year. :)

I was thinking the same........ I’m now off to a birthday party on the coast at the same time. 2 night Min, in a local accomodation establishment = $560.

Another quote was $390 at another place.......... and only 1 booking left at both places.

BUT, It’s a long weekend, and one of only a few times a year, the owners have to catch up the cash flow, from the rest of the quiet weekends all year, so it’s fair enough. ;)

Basically, although you can afford the Kombi, if you really can’t afford to go away - stay home! :p

Not all of us work any more and we manage on a limited budget.
Being able to travel in our syncro takes priority over any show weekend.
Having said that, I would love to go.

Nike time;). Just do it Peter. You'll meet a whole lot of Kombi nuts & put some faces to forum names:D.
Went first time 2 yrs ago:cool: & won't ever miss another. I do hide away from the busy part of town tho' & just go there when we feel like it (saturday arvo for the Kombi cruise & all day Sunday for the park up). But if you like 'busy' it'll be a weekend you won't forget & you'll feel 10 yrs younger:).
    Cheers

I’m sure the fuel bill, to get the Kombi there, and back home, and the booze and food costs for many, will add up to as much, or way more, than the reasonable asking price of a camping spot with facilities....
