My mum sent me this pic today of her kombi when she was younger. Look like a '72 but not sure when the pic was taken. [IMG]
I also found these today. My mum bought me this camper for my 21st back in 1998

My step dad loved it so much he went and bought this 2 weeks later.

Nice bit of family history !
I'm still chasing a set of those racks on the 71..... so simple, stylish & the right look for a kombi.
    Cheers,
    Mark

    That's the plan Paul....
The clamps & pipe spacers are easy enough to knock up.....done 'em before.
It was the Jorge bases that were eluding me ;)

Yes Mark - it was legal way back then. But just thinking, rhino racks sell an accessory gas bottle holder for roof racks, and for that matter, jerry can holders. so I wonder if there is no law against such mounting location for such containers?? Of course it should be turned off while driving! L

Picked up a set of those racks last yr via Gumtree. Great original look although avoided the "skyscraper " look on the rear bar like I used to have on my earlier VW I had in early 70's (in fact still have Ruby).

Well done old chap ....... remember those roof racks on many a car with surfboard(s) strap to them heading down the Palm Beach Road (sorry but we know where that's heading) BUT couldn't understand why sedans & wagons had them with a level roof - panel vans yeah and always to the front - aerodynamics though :D Need more height = bit of gal pipe and longer bolt for improvisation

    Been trolling Trove?

Taking into account inflation, a £1341 Microbus in today's figures is about $41000 (according to the RBA anyway).

Given the date and the 6 character white on black plates it's probably in Melbourne. Heck it might be in Clayton :)
