Hi All, I have gaps between panels and wish to touch up spray paint. What can I use to fill the missing filler ? It needs to be able to be painted . Your thoughts please, I have attached some photos. Regards Klaus
Others with more knowledge will answer but this page seems to have some answers https://midnorthcoastvw.com/vanagon-t3-t25-seams-rust-treatment-t204.html (bloody hard to read though) Sikaflex 11FC or sikaflex 221 3M have this https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40066967/
Def. Sika products but let them cure / shrink back before painting….. Many paint too soon after filling and as the sealant shrinks back, ( and it will), the paint cracks. Cheers, Mark
Where's Col @cbus Recall seeing a thread some time back with the resto of a T3 by Al (Das Resto) where he explained the procedure of how to it and what to use ..... alas as he left this place I'm not sure if he is still a registered member &/or whether his posts are still available as he had posted some great information.
Thanks everybody for this information, will investigate the products. And take note of the shrinkage prior to painting. Regards
As Mark said. Clean out all old sealant. If any rust fold a piece of sandpaper , about 100 grit, and clean to bright metal. If rust in the join , hit it with a rust converter. Then aerosol Can of penetrol with extension straw spray into seam. Do this at leasttwice with 24hr between applications. Remove excess with tag and turps or wax n grease remover. Minimum 24 hr penetrol cure before sealant. Apply a vinyl masking tape to inside edge of the join radius. Apply fine bead ensuring full contact and seal into just the join. Don't spread it. Any full curing sika urethane sealant as mentioned in prior posts. Allow a day to cure and shrink. Prime and topcoat.
Wow thanks for this info, this will be a great help,,,another job to do,but fun . Appreciate your advise Regards Klaus
