Poptop Internal Hold Down Latches

Discussion in 'Interior' started by Elsie 76, Sep 25, 2017.

  1. Hi Fellow Kombi Clubbers,
I am inching closer to completing my 1976 Sopru and would like to know what is the best method of holding down the poptop and tent whist not in use or travelling at 110kph?
I used to have a simple eyelet and post, but after having all of the trim done I am looking for something a bit more secure to lock it down. From the photo below you can see a simple strap and press stud which does not hold down the roof section snug to the fibreglass base.
    All suggestions welcome.

    Hi Elsie76,
I used adjustable cam locks on mine. Good for the front but no 'meat' under fibreglass at the back to get security. I'm still working on that;). Either way they will need a method to stop them popping outwards like the second photo shows.

Like this or I use half a clothes peg wedged in:D. They do hold it down tight tho'.
IMO I'd put these on the front & stick with original strap down the back.
The other alternative on here is the external stretchy rubber ones.

    Cheers

  3. Thanks David, I had a look at the type you recommended but they appeared too long at 130mm, but will have another look. I have ordered the rubber type from JK and work out if that will work. If not I can sent them back. Anyway, Elsie is close to the finish line with just some minor works to complete.
    Regards Craig

Nice to see the finish line:). The front one shown is 85mm in the hook part & 120 top to base mounted position so given it's screwed up about 10mm they prob are the 130mm ones.
    Cheers
