I'm extremely saddened to hear of the loss of Bud Tingwell this morning. Australia has lost another wonderful acting icon, and another true gentleman

I have loved this man for as long as i can remember, he will be sadly missed. He lost his battle with Prostate Cancer at the age of 86.

    R.I.P Bud

That's very sad. He always struck me as a really nice man, who was a very decent human being.

I hope that his passing is not forgotten by the media during all of these NRL stories.

He had an amazing life. He was a Reconnaissance Spitfire Pilot in WWII, one with no guns and lightened to make it fast, and fitted with cameras to take photos of enemy positions. Saw a show on hime once and he told the story.

    Absolute legend.

That's a fine gesture. You're a top fella Mr. Dad. The thing with Bud was I bet if he knew, he'd really be touched by that.

774 Melbourne had a lengthy interview this morning with Bert Newton about his close friend Bud's life... he definitely seemed to be a great guy... he will be sadly missed.

Bud's biography is here, on his website...

Apparently he never said no to the young film makers and students from the College of Arts or NIDA [ hence his assoc with Working Dog ]. Rob Sitch was saying this morning that he visited him in hosp. a few days ago and he was still reading scripts. I reckon his roll in The Castle was pretty close to the mark. Rod.

Agreed - we have lost an absolute legend of Australian theatre, television and big screen. Some of my fondest memories of Mr Tingwell were his regular appearances on T.V. with The D-Generation. And of course, The Castle. What an absolute legend.

Rest In Peace, Charles "Bud" Tingwell.
