    Welcome.
Possibility knock is due to firing in wrong cylinder during attempt so to be sure of need for new engine it would be good to get this one fired up n running first.
    Sometimes can be lucky.

Is the knock coming from trying to kick it over?
Do you have compression? On all 4 cylinders?
    Spark?
    Statically timed?
    Check valve settings.
    check end play.

As Col says - try to get it running first.

If it is dead - what do you want to do?
    New?
    Bigger?
    Long block?
    Rebuild yourself?

Thanks for the reply but must confess non car head ie don't know how to check the things you have suggested. Never re built an engine myself, if replacing was thinking reco same of larger.

Its a Low Light so a 1600 would be going back in, I would suggest going to see Peter Murfett and drop the car off , exchange the required renumeration
then drive it away without any stress seeing as you have stated you haven't built an engine before. You are going to have to learn quickly as Peter is retiring soon

Yes , have had dealings with Peter and he is so close to retiring that he works a four day week with Fridays off.
He loves to build an engine and will try to upsize, upsell, but if you wanted to race it wouldn't be a kombi you would choose to drive
Get yours rebuilt to standard as a new crank is inexpensive as long as the cases are ok
I would keep it simple with the single carby for ease of tuning
I tried to ring you a moment ago at Lillico but went to message bank?
