VW locks and ignition barrel work

I recently bought an NOS ignition barrel from america, and got it sent straight to a guy over there called Steve Sandlin:

    www.steveslockshop.com

He re-keyed the barrel to match my existing keys, and cut me three new keys, with all work done straight from my original key code (I'm lucky enough to have it with my original vehicle documents). After doing the work, Steve forwarded the barrel and keys on to me. Now I have a set of keys and an ignition barrel that haven't had 40 years of wear, and I still have one key for my whole bus.

Steve's prices were great, and he is a specialist when it comes to VW locks. His service via email was also second to none.

just wanted to give a big shout out to Volvo and Volwswagen Centre at Rocklea. Today I had Charlene the recalcitrant Caravelle towed in unannounced and they had me back on the road in fifteen minutes. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the advice mick, I used Gold Coast Vee-Dub near helensvale when I lived down that way and found Jack and Dave there extremely helpful (for a Kombi novice like myself!), always did a good job and reasonably priced. However since my move to the northside of Brisbane have made contact with custom offroad at stafford but not used them yet, from previous posts sounds like there a good outfit. But since I started a resto on my '73 kombi I now need someone to help me out with panel/paintwork, any experience of guys up your way?

I have had an issue with a motor build I am doing at the moment. I gave Steve Muller from Kombi Rescue a call hoping for a bit of advice. Even though he is very busy, he gave me about half an hour of his time on the phone discussing my problem and some potential solutions. Not once did he try to push any of his own products or services on me. In fact he recommended that I purchase new heads and suggested a vendor other than himself as they currently had very reasonable prices. After this he also rang around and came up with the best price he could from one of his own suppliers. I was having compression ratio issues and he happily went ahead and double checked all of my calculations. At the end of our lengthy conversation and my many questions, I felt that I owed Steve something for his time and all of the great advice he had given me. I asked if I could pay him something. He said to me that he was happy to help and rather than pay him anything, he said that if it would make me feel better, I could donate an amount I thought appropriate to any charity of my choice and this would be payment enough for him.
This is the second time I have dealt with Steve and this experience just confirms how kind and helpful he is. I definitely recommend using Steve at Kombi Rescue. Great guy and really knows VW's

I have just recieved my sunroof kit through Paris Beetles United Kindom.
    http://www.parisbeetles.co.uk/
The service was terrific, and the product appears to be very good quality with good stichwork on it. Turnaround time was very good being only 2-2.5 weeks, postage costs about $80. Other costs listed on website which is handy.

I did have one problem which was two of the aluminium extrusions were bent in transit. I let Rick Paris know for future reference, and his responce was almost immediate and very professional offering advice on the ability to make a claim against the shipping company that he deals with.

I would have no problems sending others to him. And although I have not fitted mine, I have spoken with the owner of a well known van on here and have been reported that they dont leak.

We too used to go to Erwin at Phoenix in Brisbane many years ago. He was excellent then and a lovely guy to boot.

I just want to update my post two up. I had two of my long rails bent in transit. Because they are too long they could not be transported seperately with any degree of success.
However, upon request, Rick Paris was happy to assit me by placing new runners within an order of another customer. As luck would have it, that other customer was Vinny so is not far away.
Certainly better service than a lot of companies would have given.
