Replacing a CV boot

    Hi,

    One of Mr Ks CV boots is torn and needs replacement. Its next to the gearbox (6 rib).

    Can someone talk me through the process pls. I did a search and couldn`t find anything

    Perfect, thanks cbus.
    If I`m only replacing a boot, I`m thinking that if I am lucky I might be able to disconnect that end, remove the joint, change the boot, joint back on, bolt up and away I go.
    Is this a cunning plan.............. or is it a fanciful plan?

    Na. Could do, but my call is it would be easier to fully remove axle on that side or you will be trying to balance a bucketfull of cats.
    The CV needs to come off to do the boot.
    If you tilt it too far you may loose the balls.
    Likely also need to pack some more grease.
    You could try only one end but allow enough height and assistance handing bits would help.

    Only another 6 bolts.
    Ensure heads clean and buy a correct socket drive tool.
    Ensure correct retorque.

    Another tip is use "Black Lightening" gloves whilst working on it as the graphite grease sticks like s... to a blanket so if you use the gloves it is just a matter of pulling the gloves off and throwing them in the bin and "viola" - clean hands.

    I would recommend servicing the joints at the same time while you are there.

    If the boot is split there is a high chance that grit and water is now in the joint. Obviously water and abrasive materials do not do well for bearing surfaces.
