Hi, I'm Rusty. I am a new member of the Kombi Club, I acquired my 76 bay window camper in January 2010 and plan to restore it to its former glory. Here are a couple of photos after I got it home. I hope to have it completed by the time I get my licence. I am 12 yrs old at the moment.

Welcome Rusty! (and no, "rusty" is not a word usually typed on this forum ;)) .... your kombi looks pretty good and should look pretty amazing by the time you get your license. It may be a bit more difficult to initially master than a more modern car, but once mastered you will no doubt be able to drive any car! And how many of your friends will be able to sleep in their car?

Best wishes with the resto, I look forward to watching the magic unfold.

make sure if you take on a resto to show us your photos. You'll get lots of motivation with lots of us cheering you on.

Well done Rusty - @ 12 years old I had other things on my mind apart from kombis (my folks had them to worry about) like chasing girls, surfing and certain other activities I wont mention.

At least restoring a kombi will keep you so busy - you wont have time to get into any trouble.

Enjoy the ride - kombis are loads of fun - just a bit expensive.

    Cheers,

Welcome Rusty. Awesome choice for a first car! Can't wait to see it when it is done. Have you thought of a name yet for your car?

How is the corrosion under that pop-top? - that is a common point of rust.

My dad is helping me with the resto. There is some minor rust repair required under the camper but the rest of the roof and body are quite good.

I have been removing the camper interior and checking out the overall condition of my Kombi which is in better condition than we expected. Here's a couple of photo's. I picked up a couple of parts at the Melbourne VW swap meet yesterday 26 September.

Well done Rusty! It is so great that you have your own Kombi, what a great project. Bet no-one else at school has one, lol! I will be watching out for your updates and photos, can't wait! The amazing members of KC have so much knowledge, tips and advice, sure there won't be anything you can't sort out. So are we talking classic resto or slammed beast or a x breed of both :D
