Sam made his first trip as a daily driver for Louise and Gabe, taking them to work this morning.
Louise reports he's running much better than the last time she had him down there.

Bad news from Louise last night.....
Sam seems to have lost reverse and third again.
This is getting testing, but as Louise said "We will not give up on him"

Start by checking the gearbox selector coupling......cheap part and doable roadside.
    Cheers,

I would love it to be something simple, but when Park selects and works, suggests things are OK re shifting.
From my limited understanding, reverse and third and on the same band or something.
Louise and Gabe going to take him to Gabe's Dad in Ocean Grove on Sunday - he owns 5 kombis - and get him to check Sam out.
Currently favouring finding a new repairer down there and giving up on the current rebuilder, even if we have to pay again.
Just so frustrating when Louise was all set up for a nice Christmas / New Years cruising in Sam.

Ahhhh, sorry....my bad....forgot that Sam was an auto.
    Selector coupling prognosis is redundant....
Good luck, hope it’s not too complex.
    Cheers,

Oh, what a shame, :( these auto's are one of the easiest trans to O/haul and strong to boot !
Any experienced auto repair shop should be able to refresh one of these trans and guarantee a long service life.
As I recall earlier in sams repair thread maybe all the effort was put into the nice black paint job instead.

His dad will know of Dean at Vdubs Only at ocean grove. I’m sure he will help. Have a great Xmas and hope Sam is back chasing waves in no time

Thanks for the support. He was already booked in with Dean (Gabe's dad takes all his Kombis there) on January 6th to deal with a leaking rocker cover gasket.
Good to get an independent recommendation - looks like Dean will have a bit more to do.

Sam has had is rocker cover gaskets seen to, but Dean wouldn't tackle the Auto. Passed us on to Sam (good omen) in South Geelong. Only trouble was there was a wait until yesterday to get in. Good to be part of a Kombi network to get things done.
Sam had fun having a sleep over with friends in Ocean Grove for a few weeks.
