That is not the right one for a kombi - I am not sure what the difference is but the correct part number is 003 325 391C. But these are NLA so I would try a used one from a wrecker.

Just going back to the compression test, it should be done on a warm engine and throttle fully open to give an accurate reading. Not saying you have done it improperly but Cold you are going to get increased leakage from rings to sidewall (they expand and seal when hot) and with out full throttle not a full charge of fuel air to compress.

I reckon you might find a distinct improvement on the numbers and may be able to warn off a rebuild.

Yes I think your right Adrian next time I will do it with a warm motor and full throttle. It’s a painful task removing those spark plugs so not in and rush to do that job.
I am pretty comfortable/confident the engine is good.
Will keep you posted when it’s back on the road.

Just wanted to let you all know I fitted a new transmission modulator and everything is running perfectly now.
Took about 10 km of driving to burn the excess oil out of the exhaust.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and opinions especially cbus who was on the money.
    Thanks
    Dominic

I purchased a new original modulator for my 003 transmission.
Pricey little buggers at $195 but can drive with confidence now

If it’s like any other 1 off stuff I source from overseas, a large percentage of that cost was freight / postage.

Probably the same postage cost, for 2 units.
