Looks great mate. Cant wait to see the finished product. Ive made a few of my own boards. They are far from perfect but there is something special about riding something you have personally hand crafted. Even better is sharing your board with others and chatting afterwards over a beer /coffee about it. If you get a chance track down a movie called "Singlefin Yellow". Its about a board that is crafted and posted on to friend to friend to friend etc.. as it travels around the globe - pretty cool flick.

One of my all time favorite movies !
Here’s me with Tyler Hatzikian who shaped single fin yellow and my 9’9 double step deck I brought home.
Got to hang out with him at his shop , great guy, loves his cars too

One of my main concerns, is if I finally lose it, and get carted off by men in white coats to an asylum......

They will make me do woodwork for therapy, not understanding, that was what actually put me there in the first place!

    :D

Today was shaping the frames, which pretty much took all day. Little block plain and a lot of patience.
And installed supports for the fin boxes to be routered into.
The apprentice sorted our top and bottom skins running them through the big planer and jig sawing the shapes out.
And we prepped for tomorrow. After years of designs, Stu now puts the fibreglass on the inside skin of the boards and only epoxy clear on the outside. Finds it is plenty strong enough, and the clear coat gives better clarity of ths timber and does not spider crack like fibre glass.
2 layers for the top deck, and 1 layer for the bottom.

Big day and looking forward to the couch now.

When you started posting yesterday it was a coincidence that I was reading an article in a woodworking magazine about Stuart Bywater and another surfboard maker,it was rather interesting to read, then to know your experience it.

That’s starting to look like a Wall Hanger Brad !
A lot of similarities to be drawn between an immaculate Kombi and your ‘board......
I’d be terrified to navigate either in busy situations for fear of damage !
Will it be at Old Bar ? Time is ticking .......
    Cheers,
    Mark

Nope. Not at Old Bar unfortunately. Would love to show it off, but i will stress less about a fibreglass board.

It has ended up being 10 foot 3. So will become my go to for smaller surf, and definately going to use it. But when it gets home it will be displayed on a wall.

We laid out the boards this morning and adjusted the rocker to what we wanted. Lunch now then hopefully get all 5 skinned up and vac sealed this afternoon.

Got 6 boards done. Cracker of a day for 3 of us. Got out just as the sun was going down.

So happy how the board is coming along.

Another cracker of a day. We got to unbag and detape the boards.
And shape them how we want.

    Two very different boards.

Brendan's 9'6" Pig "Rose". Extra rocker front and back and curved rails right to the back.

Mine. 10'3" "Dawn". Kept flatter for some speed. Bit of extra rocker at the nose. And sharper rear rails to hopefully make bottom turns easier.

Three very happy blokes sharing a beer at the end of it. A great experience.

And in a few weeks it will have 4 coats of resin on it too.

I am looking forward to surfing anything this weekend. Learnt so much from these two old surfers.

Trying to guess the timbers used....but could be way off.

Looks like Oz Red Cedar, Rock Maple, Walnut.......are some of my guesses.

    Any clues Brad?
